So MegadavE is back with album 14 now (Jebus, really, that many? I stopped paying attention after The Black Alb…Countdown To Disappointment about 20 years ago!), entitled Supercollider.

It seems across the interw3b there have been a lot of super-deriders, but the band is of significant enough stature that we really should review them and since no one else at Metal Storm Towers was chomping at the bit, I figured I'd take this on as a change of pace from Slavic doom.

so Rust in Peace is just "meh" to you?

nah, still it's not that good when you compare it with other albums having the same style, don't forget the bad vocals of Megadeth anyway.

but a long way off from their best.

even at their best they're still meh in my opinion

hahaha, so Rust in Peace is just "meh" to you? Oh well, some people are just very hard to please.

who says 'Rust In Peace' is their best? To me and many others 'Peace Sells' is their best. I even know people who regard 'Countdown To Extinction' as their best

Obviously I do and you and others have different opinions on their best. That's fair enough.

Rating: 6 Not really what I would expect. it seems Dave has lost that little spark in music as well, (not to mention the vocals.)

IMO "Peace Sells" is their best album, a classic in every sense.

Because it's not even a decent album if you turn a blind eye over Megadeth and that it was made by the same band that recorded some other good albums. Musically, it's more cheesy than ever and while I am a fan of Megadeth, I find this album to be extremely average on its own and a more disappointing entry in Megadeth's catalog. I'm not saying they shouldn't have shifted towards a more accessible sound, but even for an "accessible" album, it's an anemic effort.

Finally forced myself to listen to the whole album. Some songs barely attain an 'average' mark, but most of all this album's flaw is that it's totally dull, lifeless, without energy or anything... to keep along with Risk in the worst part of Megadave's efforts.

Rating: 7 I listened to Super Collider last night alongside some 80s Anthrax and WASP and a Suicidal Tendencies best of (covering 80s to mid 90s).

It worked well and was enjoyable to listen to as heavy metal/hard rock album. Still not their best 21st album by far but not as bad as some make it out to to be i.e. Risk level.

But then I stopped expecting Thrash metal from Megadeth (or Anthrax or Metallica) years ago and thus Endgame was a nice surprise whilst Thirteen and Super Collider is what I expect from Megadeth.

Oh and that cover of Thin Lizzy's Cold Sweat is awesome.

That was the low point of the album. Totally horrendous cover. Even worse than what Anthrax did with their Anthems cover e.p. and that one was already very bad.
Mattybu - 20.12.2013 at 01:51
Yeah I'm with Marcel, that shit was flat out soulless. But in that way it fits into the whole album.
deadone - 20.12.2013 at 02:34
Rating: 7 Dunno why the cover was "flat out souless." I thought it was ballsy and energetic.

Marcel, I note on your votes, you're not much of a Megadeth fan post RIP? Seems it doesn't matter what they did, it wouldn't rate well.

Rating: 7 Haha, saw this album at my local library filed under pop...

For reals tho, It's not as bad as people say

I think people haven't really listened to it and have just gone along with the idiotic claim that it's like Risk (much like people go with the idiotic claim Celtic Frost's Cold Lake is glam without ever having listened to it).

For some unexplained and bizarre reason they expect Megadeth to write full fledged Thrash Metal albums, which Megadeth never really have.*

*Listen to Megadeth's earlier stuff and compare it with most of the Thrash of the day - Megadeth is on the significantly lighter side of things and have always had lots of rockier/basic heavy metal bits even on KIMBABIG.

I'm not saying Super Collider is awesome. I think it's good and far better than some of Megadeth's other albums ala Risk, The World Needs A Hero.

It's probably on par with The System Has Failed or Cryptic Writings.
