A lot of people think that black metal is a style based only on violence and absence of harmony, that there isn't a connection between the music and the lyrics, and that it's only Satanic stuff. These people are wrong and albums like "Pure Holocaust" are the proof. Norwegian Black Metal band Immortal (R.I.P.) has made history in its genre, changing the style after 1997 into a kind of Thrash/Black that brought the band under the lore of the Label Nuclear Blast. But I'm not here to tell the story of one of the greatest bands ever, so let's review the second work of the Norwegian black metallers.

Great album from these mighty Norsemen. I don't think it's their best, because a lot of dissonance is used.... But still, I consider it a BM essential that has a lot of good tracks. "Pure Holocaust" was my first black metal track.

Rating: 9 This album is excellent, I must have listened to this album a million times and its still as great now as the first time I heard it. Undoubtedly the pinnacle of Immortals career.

Rating: 8 Immortal were a fun band to watch a bloodstock. I guess the overall atmosphere created at that show more than matched the one created on this album. The moon was rising fully in the sky, and immortal played inhumanly fast and raw. Fucking great album.

Rating: 9 Hands down, its amazing and a big step up from their debut

Fantastic album. The production in particular is near perfect for this kind of black metal imo. The drums have a nice clacking, rattling noise to em. And Abbath's vocals are sick, very croaky and evil sounding.

Another classic , pure BM sound, comparing to 1th one, some say last true Immortal album, but fuck em, all from this band are awesome, true winter album
Unsilent Storms In The North Abyss - living close toe dge of the world in artic, you will understand meaning of this
The Sun No Longer Rises - so true december, mid january, sun is no longer rise
Frozen By Icewinds - another one cold winter day -35¤C and you're frozen by ice winds
Storming Through Red Clouds And Holocaustwinds - I like this one title can piss people of since haters can hate, and haters never understand true menaing they simply hate and burn other people prophesy
As The Eternity Opens - You die in the norrland and it opens

Rating: 9 Have to join to the ones spoken before me. This is album Pure f*cking madness, one thing I love about it that the sound quality is somehow black-metal-crappy and yet crystal clean at the same time, making it really grim and kvlt.

one of rare albums where bad sound quality don't matter
IMO band needs go to studio and re record this and 1th one whit better mix, master

Rating: 10 This album definetly has what a good Black Metal album contained in 1993. Blasting drums, icy sounding guitars, lyrics about northern darkness. Also the lenght of the album is perfect for this kind of music. I can't really see why albums like plastic sounding Sons of the Northern Darkness and Damned in Black are rated higher. A true classic of the genre and probably in top 3 of pure BM records of all time imo.
