There are some that believe that great art requires hardship and suffering. And those of us following the saga involving Lamb Of God's singer Randy Blyth 's manslaughter cases, the question arose what sort, and if any, music the band would come up with after the ordeal had finished. True to form, the band's new album VII: Sturm Und Drang's album seems to adhere to the adage that art needs pain.

Turns out I have listened to 4 of their albums. I'm baffled as to how I have zero recollection of doing so. Apparently I gave that album a 7 but that is now deleted. I'll give it another (i think) whirl soon as it's probably considered criminal to be a metal listener w/o having an opinion on Lamb of God's music.

Yeah I was pretty surprised when you said you hadn't heard them as you seem well ventured in metal (judging by your fav bands). I'm a sucker for rhythm heavy bands so I dig these guys a lot. I think they exhibit more than enough musicianship for you to garner a certain affinity for them given that you're into musically complex bands like SikTh, Igorrr, Pomegranate Tiger etc.

The only thing is though, they keep their grooves pretty 4/4 time signature - and they're rooted in thrash, that may not be your thang. There are many ways which you can change a rhythm - these guys seem to just love the flicky finger thing, which is cool but boring after so many albums. I just wish they'd borrow a bit from prog or tech death or jazz or something! Just to broaden their playing, seems like other people are contempt with same old coleslaw though.

woof

There's actually quite a large chunk of popular stuff I haven't sat down and listened to. Helloween, Pantera, Kreator, Blind Guardian to name a few. Maybe a song or two of each without my knowledge but that's all.

Not much of what you say can sway me on or off the album. I mean, all it takes is a couple of notes to put me off a song so i'll just have to hear it for myself. It's one reason why I never let reviews dictate what I listen to haha. Anyway enough off-topic-ness i'll listen to Ashes Of The Wake soon.

Agreed on it not being as groovy as Sacrament. It channels some of the earlier stuff from As The Palaces Burn/Ashes of the Wake as well as large dollops of Resolution.

I'm really enjoying this album so far.

yeah they are creative in writing cool riffs and its like they look at the fretboard and go for it . Although i see Chris Adler as the heart of the band and the groove maker he is a pretty good drummer . anyway its good to listen to them time to time

Probably the best LOG for me. Really, a surprise. Catchy, and nice melodies. Headbanging for the win!

My personal views:-
5 Stars = 512
4 Stars = Still Echoes, Overlord
3 Stars = Embers, Torches
0 Stars = .....

Delusion Pandemic seemed like a typical groove filler in the beginning, then the ending was good, erase this had a beautiful start, and rest was just a boring groove filler. And nightmare seeker is just a remake of a older song. Wish they had combined all the goodness and made a awesome 6 track play list. Then it would have been better.

Just went back and start playing this disc today in morning and saw something awesome in Overlord.

That song just kicks in from "soft vocals" to "Randy Blythe" section and grooves got fucking sweat. I loved that momentum.

I was missing "Overlord" track due to excessive stretch of "soft vocals". I thought this song gonna finish like this and it'll better you miss it.

"And now is the moment when everything can change
You are completely responsible for your own life
And no one is coming to save you from yourself
So stop blaming your problems on any and everything else
It does not matter one tiny fucking bit how unfair you think the world is
It's only what you do, right here, right now, right this fucking instant that matters
It's your choice now.
Sink or swim."

Well, Lamb of God return with an album written in standard LOG format. Is that a bad thing? NO WAY! This band is amazing as always. Very good riffs and amazing drumming as always. Plus there's clean vocals? Oh man that's a change for LOG. Very good album. Ready to hear the next one.

Respin after being disappointed by the latest. What a fine album this is. Still get chills at the rage behind the chorus of 512.
