I am not going into the organisational bit though.
But this festival taught me once again why I didn't camp in 30 years. And I am never going camping again. And I noticed that a three-day-festival is way too long for an old man like me. But I did enjoy myself immensely, especially in the VIP/Press tent Made loads of useful industry contacts for MS. Networking can be fun when you're standing on the VIP/Press terrace with a beer in your hand talking to someone while having a good view of the mainstage and the crowd.
Many shows were great. Only really disappointing one was mastodon. Starteed off well, but sound wasn't goood and then guitar problems arose and the band seemed to lose interest.

Got Dark Tranquillity to sign my Trail of a Life Decayed original demo cassette. Really nice guys btw.

yep, damn camping. the dew really kicked in at 3am.

Lost my car in Nantes after a day of almost continious driving. map-road-map-road - bang!!

got lost twice; renne housing estate i just couldnt seem to find my way out of at 4am.

nearly ran out of fuel once (it was well below the red).

got stopped by a traffic cop for speeding, he came past me and pulled in front before i could slow down and i rammed him!! (thought i was in trouble, he was just looking for drugs)

*Immortal rocked!! the only mosh pit of the festival i was in the middle of it all (the tall idiot jumping up and down at the front).

saw baz with his t-shirt on and jeff about 3X with his shadow (girlfriend). didnt introduce myself though.

train all the way home. FINALLY!

I totally loved this weekend Nevermind the rain, the mud and all the difficulties you meet in all the festivals.I won't camp in a battlefield when I'm 50 years old so better do it now

Meeting MS guys was really great.

And the bands... My God, Atheist was over-kick ass. Cynic was kick ass. Megadeth was kick ass. Converge, Amon Amarth, Moonspell, Neurosis, Therion, Ellipsis and others as well.

Great great great weekend, it's so rarely that you get to disconnect from reality for a few days and just live for music, beer, and friends. I just love that

aah Ravendark.. I am guessing it is the man from Cumbria we have here.. hello again!! I hope you got home fine after what happened with your car!

and yes!

WOOOOOOOOOOOOW

amazing festival!! first festival and there was everything to experience.. the rain/freezing cold/MUD MUD MUD as well as the blistering sun (Sunday) and fantastic bands all the way through the festival!!

DONT WORRY ABOUT PICTURES..
I have pictures of ALL the bands I saw and they are all really really great as well.. so there will be pictures!!
I got so close to quite a few of the bands.. I thought it would be impossible at a big festival - but I got so close to Emperor, Immortal, Behemoth, Blind Guardian, Type O Negative and a few of the smaller ones.. utterly fantastic!

I will start writing and sorting pictures for the CR soon!!!

I still have difficulties to re-connect with reality these days...

I broke a bone in my left hand due to a fall after Emperor on Sunday night. Baz was there and saw me fall flat on my face and hand.
Luckily no plaster needed, and the pain is alright, it just feels numb. But still, old people seem to break bones much easier than other people.

Ah well it was worth it all.

Unfortunately reality kicks in at 6 a.m. tomorrow morning when I have to work again. But luckily can escape it once again tomorrow night when I am going to Cynic in the 013 club in Tilburg being supported by Detonation and first an interview with CYnic at 7 pm.

Man, I was going to see Cynic on the Monday after in London but we got back far too late.

Glad I'm not the only one who couldn't take camping. I'm far too hygienic for that Highlights for me were Pain Of Salvation, Enslaved, Cannibal Corpse, Atheist, Kreator, Dream Theater, Megadeth, Vader, Immortal and Emperor. Just a tad annoyed that I couldn't catch all of the set of Blind Guardian, Neurosis and Cynic.

Only met Baz sadly. I saw a couple of MS shirts too but I'm far too damn shy for my own good to talk to strangers without being introduced whether formally or informally.

Well, despite the poor organization (which didn't affect me too much, I'd like to say, just the overlaps) the weather and camping I had great fun. I'd definitely go again next year if the lineup is as good.

Oh and also, having one toilet at a festival is NOT a good idea. Thank god for my unnaturally strong bladder.

Cannibal Corpse say:

"the show went very well despite some inclement weather. Ask anyone who was there and they'll tell you there was definitely a lot of mud to deal with, as well as strong winds and rain. Regardless, the fans gave us and the other bands a great response."
