Saxon - Bassist To Sit Out Tour

Saxon bassist Tim "Nibbs" Carter has been forced to take a step back from the band's upcoming tour due to his wife's illness. Here's the statement issued by the band:

"Sadly we are forced to announce that Nibbs won't be able to join us on the upcoming tour. Due to health problems of his wife we all decided that it will be the best for all if he stays with his wife and family to make sure that she will get well soon. We still want to do the tour and looking really forward to meeting all the Saxon fans out there - it wouldn't be fair to you to postpone the tour again. Gladly our friend Yenz Leonhardt (Kingdom Come, Lacrimosa etc.) will jump in for this part of the tour and try to replace Nibbs part as best he can, although Nibbs is irreplaceable to us."

Saxon - Vocalist Launching A Campaign To Recognise Metal As A Religion

Saxon Vocalist Peter "Biff" Byford has teamed up with Metal Hammer Magazine for a campaign to call heavy metal fans in the UK to register their religion as 'heavy metal' in the 2011 census in the UK. In this case, heavy metal would be recognised as a religion in the UK along with other religions such as Christianity and Islam.

At the last census nine years ago, more than 400 thousand people in the UK stated 'Jedi', the fictional characters from the Star Wars series, as their religion thanks to a massive internet campaign. Jedi was ultimately ranked as the fourth most popular religion in the UK behind Christianity, Islam and Hinduism, although it is considered to be a joke, rather than a real reflection of the religious beliefs of people concerned. In 2011, it may be heavy metal's turn, the campaigners hope.

Metal Hammer editor Alexander Milas said "Ever since Black Sabbath made their debut 40 years ago heavy metal has grown to become one of the UK's most significant cultural institutions, and a global phenomenon. Hell, if the Jedi can do it, why can't metalheads? The force is strong in us."

Byford added: "Getting heavy metal recognised as a religion is a great bit of rebellion, isn't it? This really is going to be a very cool thing."

Saxon - New Album Title, Track List & Single Artwork Revealed

British metal legends Saxon have posted the following update on their official site:

''All Saxon fans have a lot of things to look forward to in the coming months: to start off with, the British metal legend will release their new download single 'Live To Rock', followed by the arrival at the stores of their current studio album Into The Labyrinth, as well as major tours to support both releases. So a hot autumn is about to start in a few days' time!

Saxon's new single 'Live To Rock' (artwork: click) will be available as an internet download from 17 October 2008, and Saxon will present their new track live for the first time during the tour which will take Biff Byford & Co., alongside Motörhead and Danko Jones, through England and Germany in November/December 2008. Their new studio album, ''Into The Labyrinth'', will be out on 12 January 2009 (Germany: 9 January 2009, US: 13 January 2009). February 2009 will see the band embark on another major world tour, only one month after the album release.

''Into The Labyrinth'' was recorded at the Twilight Hall in Krefeld, Germany, under the direction of Charlie Bauerfeind. Saxon recorded 13 new songs at Blind Guardian's studio, starting with their monumental opener, 'Battalions Of Steel', through 'Demon Sweeny Todd' and 'Valley Of The Kings', which both cover historic events, to the final slide guitar blues track, 'Coming Home' (fans are already familiar with the electric version of this track from Saxon's Killing Ground album). Saxon are currently still working on an additional 14th track, which will be available exclusively as a download on iTunes from the release date. "The new material was written in England and at my house in France," Byford explains. "Stylistically, I would describe the album as an even balance between Lionheart and The Inner Sanctum, a mix of powerful, in-your-face rock songs and pure heavy metal tracks. We're very happy with the production and proud of Into The Labyrinth."

"Into The Labyrinth" track listing:
01. Battalions Of Steel
02. Live To Rock
03. Demon Sweeney Todd
04. The Letter
05. Valley Of The Kings
06. Slow Lane Blues
07. Crime Of Passion
08. Premonition in D Minor
09. Voice
10. Protect Yourselves
11. Hellcat
12. Come Rock Of Ages (The Circle Is Complete)
13. Coming Home (Bottleneck Version)

Saxon - Recording New Album

Saxon vocalist Peter "Biff" Byford has posted the following update, adressed to the visitors of the Saxon forum:

"We took of the link, this is the official web site of the band we understand that it was put on in total innocence but until OD (OLIVER/DAWSON) decide to stop trying to undermine the achievements of this band we will continue not to support them in anyway if and when they stop trying to con people and concede that times have changed can we enter into any conciliatory talks. They are the ones blocking any future. As you know in my book I did not slag them of in any way and still say that they were great times but we have to move on the ball is in their court.

On a more pleasant note we are in the studio making the next album, while recording guitars I was on the net looking at Coat Of Arms. My coat is a silver eagle holding a lions foot. Doug) Scrarratt (guitar) and (Paul) Quinn (guitar) are both Irish which explains a lot. (Nigel) Glockler (drums) is of German dissent. Well anyway, you get the picture - put coat of arms in Google and have a look, maybe post some crests on the site.

Further to your questions, I do look at the site every day - guest book and forum especially - so as you can see were playing tons of festivals this year and with our mates Mötorhead in the UK and Germany, so the eagle is rising again so keep the faith. See you on tour."
