Carcass - To Release New Album Next Year

It's been more than three years since Carcass released their last studio album and triumphant return, Surgical Steel. In a recent interview with Dead Rhetoric, guitarist Bill Steer revealed that the band's long-awaited new album should arrive by the end of next year. Good news then!

He states: "We've got a couple of festivals next year, so in other words: an enormous amount of free time. Once we get started, we work very quickly, especially with Jeff. Jeff's got a real work ethic, so we'll have something we feel is in very good shape to play to him, then he comes in and critiques that. It's just like a distillation process. Sometimes it takes a while for a song to reach a point where we're all happy with it, other times, it happens on that day. I think we should have an album that's available by the end of the year [2017]. But I know how the industry has changed...so if it's not happening, it's not happening. We can't really rush this. We don't want to waste anyone's time, including our own by putting out something substandard."

Please no. The previous album was already a mediocre thing at best.
Just concentrate on playing you classic songs live.

Everything we get out of Carcass after all of those years broken up is bonus, to me. I'm still not quite sure why some people were underwhelmed by Surgical Steel, although I guess some of them are probably the same people that think their first couple albums were their best and Heartwork was a sellout album. There's no pleasing everyone.

As for me, I thought SS was surprisingly good after all the time off, and expect the next one to be darn good as well. I've seen them live three times in the past year, and they haven't come close to disappointing.

Lol @ Marcel. Let them release new stuff anyway; people who don't worship and have such a strong connection with the earlier albums like me actually do enjoy it. I guess.

Frankly I had no idea this band even had albums before Surgical Steel until recently. I thought SS was great though, absolutely love Captive Bolt Pistol!

This time don't make the mistake of making the production from the same material as the album title. Clinical doesn't sound good. Don't make it reek of putrefaction though. Just use the tools of the trade and you'll be fine.

disagree a little bit, amigo.

while it paled in comparison to the first couple, "Surgical Steel" was a hell of a lot better than "Swansong". maybe they can pull a "For Those Once Loyal" out. Or at least "Heartwork 2.0"

Problem with the last album was the production, the songwriting was ok though nothing extraordinary. Cant say that I expect much.

Saw them live a couple years ago, and they were fuckin' good. Can't wait for their new album.

After a successful return, they are probably also feeling the pressure to release more stuff too and capitalize on that.

But as long as it's good, no worries.

A new album would be good and something akin to Swansong, that's what I'm talkin' 'bout!
