I forgot to ask about vocals for guest and studio (session) musicians. Can we used "backing vocals" or other such specifications?

If there are full-on guest/session bass, guitars, keyboards, drums or backing/lead vocals, etc, add them in the lists.

I'm not sure what you mean by the lists

Ahh ok. So is it appropriate to put things like, acoustic guitar, backing vocals, spoken word, drum solo, etc?

I'd say "yes" to acoustic guitars and backing vocals, and "no" to spoken word and drum solo. Add those to additional info.

Three quick questions that I posted on the last page:

Can I ask what happened to mathcore on this website? It seems the styles were separated into math metal and metalcore
Written by LeKiwi on 01.03.2016 at 15:22

I saw that the profile for The Obsessed had their style changed to stoner metal. Why is that?
Written by LeKiwi on 29.02.2016 at 01:07

Listening to Sylosis' first two EPs and I noticed that the styles don't match the music. On the first three releases the melodeath elements are more metalcore, and their proggy aspect is nowhere to be found until their debut. I propose the following edit to their styles:

- Metalcore (2000-2008)
- Thrash metal (2000-2007)
- Progressive thrash metal (2008-)
- Melodic death metal (2009-)

Spirit Caravan
1995-2016 Doom metal
1995-2016 Stoner metal

SC will continue as The Obsessed and since TO was doom and will now play SC songs live , I think stoner must be from 2016

Yes, but The Obsessed album material will be doom only as far as we can tell.

Opeth still plays their heavier stuff live, but their style now isn't extreme prog, it's prog rock. Nawamsayin'?

I've begun to notice that genre tags are being deconstructed into separate elements. Mathcore has become "math" + "metalcore" and now "death thrash" has become "death" + "thrash". Why is that being done?

examples please

The Dillinger Escape Plan used to be mathcore and now they're labelled as math metal + metalcore despite the fact that mathcore is a very distinctive style. As for death thrash the best example I could think of is Sepultura's style from 1985-1993, which was originally death thrash from what I recall. In any case, I remember in the past searching for mathcore and death thrash would return countless results, but now they those labels are nowhere to be found

With no member being a vocalist, it's kinda obvious they're no vocals band, right?

No reason, I believe. I just thought it look'd better than "Black Death metal", "Death Thrash metal", "Power Heavy metal" and such. In some case there was even "Black Death Thrash metal" as one style. Thought I'd separate them for a cleaner look, or merge when possible.

About TDEP, I think we added it like that due to "Mathcore" not being a style option, only a prefix. Since it is, in the end, a mix of the two styles, we choose to add "Math metal" and "Metalcore" to such bands.

Some people might want to search for bands with the instrumental tag, so it's always handy to add it in

When I see two styles side by side and not combined, I assume that the band has some parts that are "x" style and some parts that are "y" style. So when I read math/metalcore I assume that I will not like approximately 50% of the music given that I generally don't enjoy metalcore, whereas that doesn't really do TDEP justice. Not sure if I'm articulating this well at all

I have a quick question. Say one musician, for example, performs guitars and vocals from 2000 onwards. Then, a post on Facebook in 2016 indicates that he no longer performs guitars, and now is only a singer. Which of these two would be more accurate:

2000-2015 Musical Person - guitars, vocals
? 2016- -//- vocals

OR

2000-2016 Musical Person - guitars, vocals
? 2016- -//- vocals

Why can't it be used for the actual line-up?
You've got the vocalist and then, let's say, the guitarist doing backing vocals.

Exactly, that's why it perplexes me. If you search the chat somewhere, there should be a conversation between myself and another staff member stating that "backing vocals" was to no longer be used.

One year ago Lex said that no matter what only "vocals" should be used. However, recently, J. N. said that we could use "backing vocals" or "spoken word" or whatever for guest and studio musicians, but not the actual band members.
