@James: i guess the reason for re-releasing is that they are almost out of print. it was hardt to get swamplord, i had to use eBay, luckily it wasn't too expensive

I have never seen a copy of either of the first 2 Kalmah albums in any shops here, and I had to order mine in as well and same thing both were really cheap and easy to get in also.

I was so desperate to get original Kalmah CDs that I told someone in Finland to get me a copy of Swampsong....Lo and behold they were also out of stock for Kalmah, I thought that was crazy.

Over here, the great bands, namely Kalmah, and their albums are not found. Well at least to me, I've been searching HIgh and Low for their cds. And after my desperate attempts I've found them now ^_^ I just love Pekka's unearthly growls! Don't you agree?.

Still it's sad in knowing that I'd never ever get to see them live, since this city doesnt know good music! Fuckers!

Sadly I'll never get to see them in the states due to the fact that they can't get any shows booked..Which I think is a good thing..Because I am hoping that they won't hit American shores for tourism..They might turn into Children of Bodom..>.O And that won't be good..

Firstly, comparing Kalmah to Children of Bodom is natural as they have the same style of music. It's the same as comparing CoB to Norther, but that's a different story!

Yeah Kalmah kick ass! I unfortunately had to download some of their cd's 'cause just like Slottet av Take said, you can't find their discs in music shops around here. "Swampsong" is really good, in fact i'm listening to it right now. Their latest work is definateley better than Children of Bodom's latest discs but don't forget, CoB also released "Hatebreeder" and "Follow the Reaper" which are definately on par with any Kalmah album!

But yea, Kalmah are really awesome, now if only they toured in South Africa...

Seems the first 3 albums are fairly hard to get for a lot of people eh...?

I had no trouble getting my hands on all of the albums..
And I wouldn't see them hard to get since all of their albums are all over Ebay..

Now that you've mentioned it......I'm glad now. No, No they wont turn into CoB. God no! Although I like their music but still (CoB I mean).

Woodsy, I agree with you, Kalmah's style is as distinguished as it gets. There's no other Kalmah!!!! Nor will there be any comparisons.

With all the comparisons,
I do think that Kalmah is heavier that Cob, Kalmah has a more romantic/cold melodicity associated with their song writing too. Cob IMO is more heavy metal oriented, I mean just look at the influences on Laiho and the cover songs they chose to do as well.

It's not natural its annoying. This has to stop now today no more. I cannot stand Kalmah and Norther being constantly compared to Bodom every fukking time thier names get mentioned. They have NO similarities to Bodom whatsoever and in all honesty they never did, the only loose association is they are all Finns and all belong the same area of metal no more no less thier music has never been anything like Bodoms or Norther,s the vocals are different the music is to and the keys are way different and Kalmah is about 50 times as heavy also in case you hadnt noticed

Actually, all three of the bands have some similarities, Antti, Alexi, and Peter are all influenced by classical music and they reverted it into metal form..I too dislike it when people compare the bands to each other, but all three bands have different styles..Personally, Norther's not all that great except for some songs off of "Mirrors of Madness" and "Dreams of Endless War", Kalmah being the best, and Bodom sank downhill after releasing "Hatecrew Deathroll"..

Sorry Woody, I'm going to have to disagree with you on the statement you said about Norther being "kings of metal"..Kalmah beats the shit out of of Norther anyday..
I can't bother to listen to any Norther after Mirrors of Madness, their other albums they've put out after Mirrors just have nothing great sounding..It all sounds like the same roots and melodies.
As for your comment on Something Wild and Dreams of Endless War being inexperienced..Well no they weren't that inexperienced..Seeing as those two albums are both great albums released by the bands...Mirrors had alot of songs on it that sounded exactly like songs off of Dreams of Endless War..and it really dissappointed me because I thought Norter was pretty raw when they released Dreams..
Sorry..but Norther could be so much better, as well as Bodom..Oh well..Kalmah still owns and will forever!

@Woodsy (regarding screen name): Lol, like my screen also 'tis obviously why I came up with it. XD Thanks.

And yes, Kalmah owns!!! Harr!! For my foresight, I see that Kalmah will forever dominate the metal world. ^_^ At least, for my world that is, I mean, um...ours. That's good enough don't you think.

Yeah I agree...Norther was really good around the "Mirror of Madness" time but after that they seem to have cocked it up a little bit and screwed around with the clean vocals too much making their sound even more accessible. At the moment i think Kalmah is on top of the kalmah-bodom-norther pile, not necessarily due to the fact that TBW is an AMAZING album but more because the other 2 bands seem to have dropped the ball lately....despite all that I think Kalmah is the best of the 3 anyway because i think Swamplord and Swampsong are absolutely incredible.

I think that Kalmah is one of the best bands in this subgenre together with Norther, i can't compare Kalmah with Norther because they are at the same level in my point of view, although i listen more to Kalmah than Norther (but just because i've started listening to Kalmah after Norther). "Swamplord" is my favorite album, when i 've listened the first track i thought that with one music like that "opening" the album, many more and better would come and i didn't made a mistake, "Swamplord" is in my favorite albums list .And the others are good too, but i prefer their first two albums....

CoB also released "Hatebreeder" and "Follow the Reaper" which are definately on par with any Kalmah album!

John Cage would stand up straight, object aloud and say...pleeeeeaaaase! Then fire a shoe, pokipsin around and sing with the jury

Kalmah, Norther, Wintersun and whatever...are all Hatebreeder sons, that album made the subgenre and still remain the best of the best of extreme metal, IMO. And Follow the Reaper is noway near the predecessor (right spelling?)

Stay Kalmah, they re...HEROES TO US!

Lol, its kinda hard because they are differrent genres but here goes, I think you would like these bands by your tastes....

As the guy above, Eternal Tears of sorrow, is what you are looking for if you are a kalmah/cob fan. For stuff like DT I would say In flames, Arch Enemy. I think you would enjoy the swedish DM scene quite a bit too, try Dismember - Like an Everflowing stream, and Hypocrisy's latest release: Virus

It semed that everyone was saying that Kalmah is so much better than Bodom. With my comment, i tried to explain that even though CoB released that big piece of shit "Are you dead yet?", they still have awesome albums such as "Hatebreeder"! I'm sorry you failed to understand my comment.

BUT

Just because Kalmah & Wintersun and Norther are all "Hatebreeder" sons (debatable), doesn't mean that "Hatebreeder" is the best extreme power metal album ever. Just beacuse band A develops a genre doesn't mean that later on a band won't come along and release an album that's even better than band A's best effort. I agree that "Hatebreeder" is a terrific album but i think that "The Black Waltz" is just as good, even though it was released years later and by a different band.

Remus...you re right, I ve read you wrong.

Everything with/for me is debatable, and borrowing your styile, I m not The expert as i sad previosly,

BUT

Hatebreeder is like Oceanborn, and like PASTA in Italy: It came and will always come first, it is just the best

So...dont try to give theese desperate Kalmah fans a sweet cookie, they shall bow to the pioneers and the genius of Alexi

@CoB fans... maybe Kalmah is not first in this genre... but is much way better then CoB. Two reasons:
-Kalmah is making music, CoB is making money(this is not my opinion, this is fact)
-Kalmah have 4 great albums and will have more of them... CoB have only Hatebreeder(this is my opinion and probably many won't agree with me... but I don't care.)

you're right (in a way) I believe that Alexi is making music to show people that he can Sweep pick very well (thats it) while ignoring the fact that a lot of his songs sound the same, especially "follow the reaper"
