Griffen is a hard rock/metal band from Sweden featuring two members of the famous Swedish combo Torch. The whole EP starts off pretty promising with the experimental sounding beginning of the title track 'Linked In Eternity'. However it wasn't long until I found myself wondering, "is this all?".

Because this is really a strange CD, the musicians play pretty well and the vocals can even be called very good, there are some catchy choruses like on 'Falling Inside' and 'Life Is On The Way'. But apart from those few nice passages this is a band that seriously doesn't have anything to offer for me in any kind of way. The two songs I just mentioned do have good choruses, but if half of the songs consist of two lines being repeated over and over the bonus for a good chorus is worn out really soon as well. The same goes for the first two songs on the EP 'Linked In Eternity' and 'Secret Fire'. Both of these tracks start in an extremely promising way, but soon enough it becomes clear that the beginnings were the only goodness these tracks had to offer, afterwards they're both just lame.

In the end I have to say sorry Griffen, you may really know how to play your Hard Rock with a couple of Heavy Metal elements, your solos are nice too and the rhythm section knows how to do its job as well, your vocalist has a good voice, but in the end your songs really don't manage to excite me one bit. Believe me I listened to this CD multiple times, hoping for it to become better, but while I first considered this release so-so, it bored me more every extra spin I gave it.

The ability to play good music isn't the only thing a release is about. Even though you are able to play music really well, it won't get you far if your song writing doesn't manage to catch the listeners attention. Maybe next time.
