Cubical Sphere is a young Greek combo which uses to play Progressive Death Metal. Their second demo, "Promo 2008" is out this year and I suppose that the band will try to convince labels to be signed to finally release their first album. It should be possible because Cubical Sphere plays a good original music, definitely the musicians are good and their extreme Prog Metal should convince the fans of the genre.

The new demo of Cubical Sphere is not a bad release. The band plays a really nice mix of Death Metal with Progressive elements. Actually if I should describe the songs, I should say that they're, in general, divided in several parts. You'll find jazzy parts, arpeggios ones, clean vocals and of course Death Metal ones. This is not so violent but more technical a la Cynic or Atheist and this is not easy and all the songs are really "intelligent" despite the fact that they can be messy sometime.

About the production of this demo, the clean parts are really well mixed but the "violent" ones are a lot more average. This is jut a demo so of course this is not really serious but it's a bit weird to have really good passages and messy ones? This is a problem that the band will have to fix in the future but really this is not so important. On the other hand, the musicians are not bad at all and we can see that they all have a real musical maturity in their way to play Metal. Even if the guys are young, they don't sound like newcomers and this is promising for the future of the combo.

Nowadays this is not really new to listen to such music, Progressive Metal is really popular and more and more new bands try to mix it with extreme music. But Cubical Sphere does it really well and I'm sure that with better means of productions and experience, this band will be able to do great things later. We will keep an eye on the band and see what they will do next time but for sure we're in font of a promising Progressive Death Metal band.
