To be honest when I received the new album of the Sound Ex (a band which was totally unknown for me) I first thought that it was a new Brit Pop band. I was wrong as you can guess but I cannot tell you that "Palomino" is a Metal release too. Between Alternative and Hard Rock, The Sound Ex is a cool Rock band which will probably be attractive for all the people who like Thin Lizzy and such classic British combos.

We will not talk about "true" Metal today but I like Hard Rock and Metal Storm is an open-minded webzine which also features articles about good Rock bands so "Palomino" deserves to be reviewed. The Sound Ex is a young British combo which uses to play Alternative Rock which is clearly influenced by old School Rock and Hard Rock. On a side, a song like "Enchantment" can sound a bit Pop and the sound of the guitars on "Pastlife" maybe lacks a bit of overdrive effect but all in all we have real Hard Rock guitars soli and good groovy music in this release. So yes this is not heavy but if you like the 70's and British music I think that you'll like "Palomino". Plus, the more I listen to this release the more I think that it's classy Rock which is heavier than a ton of trendy poor bands that we can listen to on a the radios nowadays. I really think that we can say that The Sound Ex plays real Hard Rock, not the most powerful and angry thing ever done but cool nonetheless. The people who like bluesy Rock shouldn't be disappointed here.

You have to understand that "Palomino" is a really accessible album, I cannot say that it's underground and for sure this release features songs which are a bit commercial but honestly this is not so problematic and I think that you should have a look on this album just to see if it's not too nice for you. Personally I think that the musicians are good performers and even I cannot say that it's my favourite release of the year 2008 I have to concede that I pass a good moment when I listen to it.

Don't expect aggressive music with "Palomino" but if you like good Rock I'm sure that you'll like the album. I don't really know what to add I would like to see the future releases of The Sound Ex to give a final statement but if the guys can add a bit of anger on some of their future songs I'm quite sure that a lot of other new fans (yes all the true old Hard Rock fans) will start to become addicted. "Palomino" is recommended to all the Rock lovers who like 70's music.
