I rarely enjoy tech death these days, unless it has some roots in avantgare metal, like gorguts for example. Cynic and atheist are indeed damn fine but I have not given them any listen in the past three years maybe. Will recheck them someday and decide about their inclusion.

Someone is sharing my love for that !T.O.O.H.! album there. The rest of the list is very fantastic as well, cheers.
Cheers. I think tooh has actually a very vocal fanbase on MS.

Saying that !T.O.O.H.! is awesome seems kind of like stating "the sky is blue", so that's why no one's mentioning ^^
I still prefer Rad A Trest though. =P

I really cant decide which one is better. Rad A Trest is featured on many lists and this one I included here seems to be rather unappreciated. That's why I put it here actually

even maybe calling diselbowelment a doom grind/death is justified.
Emptiness, though, I'd say that they are mostly death metal. The mood created is more akin to BM I think but it's not enough to call it a BM record. Also, note that I have emptiness also on my BM list
Have to agree with Marcel on the albums he mentioned. The only song on Disembowelment's debut that has grind elements in it is Excoriate, so calling them grind/death is definitely not justified. They're definitely doom death. Their sound is mainly doom, but there's lots of DM elements as well. And Emptiness is way more BM than DM, in all aspects, I'd say. In fact, I barely hear any DM in their sound.

I didn't call disembowlement a death/grind band. I went for "doom death/grind" or "doom death/doom grind" amd as you said, there are some grind element in that album. In any case, the band is closest to something that could be called doom grind I think.
Regarding the emptiness and the whole death VS black metal thing, as I said before, I consider that album to be both death metal and black metal enough to be placed on the respective lists of the genres. In fact, I had said this on the album forum:
Quote:
I can easily say that this is going to be one of the most unique sounding BM albums I've been exposed to recently...
So, I do think that it is black metal.
Finally, please note that I've never been a purist when it comes to sub-genres.

Indeed, you didn't call diSEMBOWELMENT death/grind but doom deah/doom grind. And that typification is correct since there are some grind parts in it.
But remember, Erik's reading comprehension isn't all that good, so it is understandable he though you said death/grind

Well, whatever you called it, I simply disagree with calling them grind, be it in combination with doom or death, or both. Too few grind elements in their music in general since the only song that has grind in it is the one I linked to in my previous message. It's been a long while since I listened to it so I might be wrong about this.
When it comes to Emptiness it's just really hard for me to judge what genre they're playing. Their sound is so unique it kind of distracts me from determining the genre. But they sound BM to me, if anything.

I typed "death/grind" instead of "doom death/grind". It's still obvious I'm disagreeing with calling them "grind" (at least, to me it is).

It isn't? Wow, this is like the first time ever I hear that from you.

I am familiar with IIS and love it. Initially I forgot about that record. It'll be added in the next update.
