Top 30 Doom Metal Albums

Doom Metal is one of those genres that I'd never really taken much notice of until I started working my way through the MS top 200 albums. I'd listened to Black Sabbath when a teacher at my school gave me his copy of Paranoid to borrow around 2007/08, which I highly enjoyed! Since then, Over the last few years, I've discovered so many great doom metal bands such as Slumber, Doom:VS, October Tide and Swallow the Sun.

So here are my favourites of the genre with my rating, its sub-genre and release year:

(Score is an average of each album's song ratings, full list located here)

If you discovered any new albums or like the same sort of doom metal, be sure to give this list a thumbs-up and leave a comment so more people can find these amazing bands!

Top 25 EPs (also ordered & rated)

Are there any must-listens I'm missing here?

I've listened to Anathema, Paradise Lost, Katatonia and Estatic Fear - all good bands but I didn't enjoy them quite enough to make this list.

Dopethrone is pretty good, I didn't enjoy it enough to be on this list though. I've heard a couple of High on Fire albums but I'll check that one out!

I agree with both of F3ynman's recs and also as always, here are some of mine:

Horn Of The Rhino - Weight Of Coronation
Cathedral - Forest Of Equilibrium
Eyehategod - In The Name Of Suffering
Esoteric - The Maniacal Vale
Domkraft - The End Of Electricity
Esoteric - Paragon Of Dissonance
Burning Witch - Crippled Lucifer
Warhorse - As Heaven Turns To Ash
Ufomammut - Snailking
The Sword - Age Of Winters
Acrimony - Tumuli Shroomaroom
Horn Of The Rhino - Summoning Deliverance

There would be more but that's a good start I think? And I didn't include any of the bands you mentionned in your first post and also I believe none of them are in your "overrated" list . Most of those are also infused with Stoner & Sludge tbh.

The only one I've heard here is Age of Winters, which is a great album! Thanks for these, when I'm in the mood for Doom/Stoner I know where to look

I like the list here and I'll check out some of the unheard albums for sure. But that Slumber album, it never gets old for me. I wish they record one more album before my death bed.

The 3rd And The Mortal- Tears Laid in Earth

Good to see there are still people out there today who are aware of this beauty of an album.

What a great list - very much my doomish tastes as well. Regarding the bands mentioned in your comment I'm completely with you regarding Katatonia - I just can't get into it as well. But...had a similar opinion re Anathema and Paradise Lost long time ago...until I've seen them playing live. Since then it somehow clicked for me big time and for sure they would make it into my doomish top-list now They say "the experience is not transferable" but maybe it could work for you as well?

Plus one recommendation I missed in this thread - they might not be hailed as a typical doom representatives but some borderline names have been mentioned here already AND they evoke sort of mood irrevocably (for me at least) = In the Woods...
