Yup, this is that album. You know the yearly album that comes out of virtually nowhere to take over the world. 2021 needed this.

This album is a damn masterpiece! In a year when Melodic Death has been severely lacking, this and the new Alustrium are a breath of fresh air.

Most songs sound essentially like a slightly more aggressive and epic form of Amorphis to me. I think Amorphis is a bit too tame for my metal tastes so that works for me, I prefer this album as a whole to any single album Amorphis has ever put out. A limited portion of the album has elements that would be suited for those who would like to hear a more melodic/epic version of Windir in a much less blackened state. The Windir worship is readily apparent in "In the Chamber of Incantation" where they (I'm sure purposefully) repurposed the near exact main riff from my favorite Windir song, "Svartesmeden Og Lundamyrstrollet." Folk metal isn't really one of my favorite subgenres and I've spun this more times than any other folk metal album of recent memory so I suspect fans of that subgenre will be extremely pleased. I know this is random but I really like the production in regards to the level of the toms, they really hit. I'm torn between an 8 and 9, if this album was only the best handful of tracks it would easily be a 9 but there are a few tracks that I think are good but weaker (ex, "The Sleeping Tide," "Among the Ruins")

Current favorite tracks- Deathless (very clear Saor "Forgotten Paths" influence) and In The Chamber of Incantation

Very impressive album! Best melodeath I've heard this year so far! the most enjoyable at least. I love the melodies it provides, with endless catchy riffs, and I like the epic, folky sound, which sounds very much like Amorphis, and also similar style to Windir, and a less Blackened version of Shylmagoghnar. A mix of all those bands, but just not quite with the same quality.

I will have to check out their previous release if it sounds anything like this?

Good album but nothing more. Sound and atmosphere are of my taste, but songs are all very similar and less inspired than the 2 previous releases.
For me their best album is still Legends.

Solid album, I like it a lot. Nice blend of melo death, black and folk, as aforementioned. I'd personally rate it 7.5. In The Chamber Of Incantation might be my favourite track, hmm.

In The Chamber Of Incantation sounds like something from a Windir album.

Yeah, main melody is almost exactly "Svartesmeden og Lundamyrstrollet". Looks like a tribute.

The folk bit ruin it a bit for me from it being an otherwise really good melodic death metal album. I felt the folk bits were not too inspiring. On the other hand the melodeath riffs were mind blowing. I also love the slightly blackened touch to blood of the forest. Overall a really good album.

I'll admit that when I first heard that little Karate Kid flute I was worried but fortunately this album doesn't sacrifice quality for originality. It's 100% a metal album. Not sure anybody was begging for a dash of folk with their metal but, somehow, Duskmourn pulled it off without things sounding forced or out-of-place. This release was the first I've heard of this band but it's obvious to my virgin ears that there are dozens of influences (some obscure and some more popular) but nearly all hale from Scandinavia. I'm definitely hearing the same Amorphis and Windir influences others have mentioned but I'd bet money these guys listen to a decent amount of Kalmah, Wintersun, Norther, etc. You can hear it in their sound. Excellent album.

Epic and melodic if a little one-dimensional.
