Top 500 Albums of All Time

I've been listening to Metal since 2005 and it has become my biggest passion in life. Rarely a day goes by where I don't listen to it in one form or another. The bands I listened to in my teens inspired me to pick up the guitar (and later drums) and start making music of my own.
So here are the albums that have stood out and made the largest impact on me. To be as transparent as possible, I've labelled albums as 'nostalgia bias' where my memories of the band give it an advantage over others. (Score is an average of each album's song ratings, full list located here. There are a ton of albums that I've rated 9/10 in the 'TBR' tab that may never make it to this list, be sure to check those out.) Written by nonZero on 04.08.2021 at 10:30 I originally created a big list of all my favourite albums, but I struggled with ordering them, so I have catorgorized the lists into different genre's, which was easier for me. I have kept a big list for my favourite songs tho.

Well, here it is...over 5 years in the making...my top 500 albums! Almost a quarter of the albums I've ever listened to are on this list. While I have given all of them either a 9 or 10/10 on their album pages, it is by no means an exhaustive list of all 9/10s I've given (see the 'TBR' tab here). I probably won't set another milestone as my life is about to get a lot busier this year, but I may add the occasional new release from my favourite bands if I enjoy them enough. This has been a great project to work on and I'm incredibly proud of it. There will be more lists to come, but this will forever be my 'Master List' and the best representation of my taste. Thank you to everyone that has given it a thumbs-up and/or commented, if it has helped even one person discover a new favourite album or band then I'm happy. Anyway...time to relisten to them!

At first I thought: Wait, is this really another new list from nonzero like the several he released recently? Have I not seen an all-genres top list from him before? Then I saw The Downward Spital sitting in the top position, and now I was sure, I have seen that before. This is just such an odd choice for favourite album, from my view, if I may say so. It might even have made me refrain from thumbing the list up over the years. But I went through it again, now understanding it has basically grown lately, and I must say that there are just too many of my all-time favourite albums in this list not to upvote. So, here you go. Note: I was briefly thinking whether this list might have grown too long now with 500 ranks. Mine is also at 300 already, possibly growing too. Yet, I have quickly come to the conclusion that 500 spots surely is a lot, but I think it is fine. And the reason is that it is a cross-genre list.

Written by Redel on 12.03.2024 at 19:59 Haha, no this is my original one! The Downward Spiral got me through a pretty bad time in my life so I have a lot of nostalgia bias towards it (thus the tag). And thanks for the thumbs-up! The first 200 were definitely the easiest, then each additional 100 was more difficult. So good luck to you, I'll keep an eye on yours for the progress

Its a very good list, a lot of great releases in here. Even some that you tagged as "nostalgia bias" I actually really enjoy (Trivium's Ascendancy for example I think is a killer metalcore album).
