To me, listening to Bruce Dickinson is like being with an old friend, as it was he and Iron Maiden that got me into Heavy Metal at the tender age of 13... So, I was more than thrilled when this album featured not only Sir "Air-raid siren" Dickinson but also his former band mate and one of the best guitarists of all time, Adrian Smith. As you would expect, Bruce doesn't screw around; from the first second of the opener 'King in Crimson' you know what you are going to get: heavy, classic, melodic metal that has stayed true to itself. To top it all off, Bruce adds the perfect amount of darkness and mystical lyrics (based on the writings of William Blake).

Heavy Metal is diverse, Bruce Dickinson is diverse and if by natural cause The Chemical Wedding is diverse, too. Not only compared from song to song, even the songs in themselves are diverse, but still sounding natural and not edited. The last release before reuniting with Iron Maiden is strong, dark, mystic and evil, at the same time progressive, calm and full of surprises.

The concept of this album seems to have been well thought out by Bruce Dickinson, and even if this isn't necessarily his best solo effort, I'd say it's definitely his most ambitious. Having now listened to the album a few times I think it would be fitting to watch the film that takes the same name (featuring Dickinson in a cameo role of course). As for the music, I believe it to be quite aggressive and groove-laden for the most part, with very little mellow or melodic parts to be found. The two longer tracks-That is 'Book of Thel' and 'The Alchemist'-both impress by being very well structured and having a nice progression, but other highlights for me would be 'The Tower' (which I personally think is one of Dickinson's heaviest songs) and 'Gates of Uriyen', which features an excellent solo courtesy of Adrian Smith.

This is pretty strong stuff, at least some of the songs are really memorable. Right now I'm seeing The Tower, Book Of Thel and Jerusalem as some of the finest Dickinson songs.

For me this album is one of those albums that does almost everything perfectly. I love the concept, heavy riffs and the amazing vocal performance of Bruce. This is one of the albums I listen to the most on a regular basis, I never get bored of it.

Every song is great but my personal favourites are: Chemical Wedding, Book Of Thel, Jerusalem, Trumpets Of Jericho and The Alchemist.

That's harsh
I assume based on your rating you find the album average, you did not like it much. But a joke the album it is not.
I like Balls to Picasso and Accident of Birth more, but this one is pretty good. It's in the top 200 because it's considered by some as Dickinson's best work.
I haven't listened to it in quite a while. I'll give it a listen soon.

Yea could be a little harsh from my side but I just don't enjoy his vocals and his music isn't that special either.. Just as a quick and simple comaprison, I prefer Halford's "Resurrection" to any of his albums and it's not in the top 200. But again, that's just me and I know there are tons of Maiden fans around
