So I Heard You Like Wintersun...
This list aims to be the Wintersun equivalent of LeKiwi's fantastic So I Heard You Like Opeth... list (go and check that one out if you're a fan).
A lot of us around these parts are/were big fans of Wintersun. While Jari may take his sweet time writing, recording, (and let's not forget) producing albums, there are many bands that have a similar sound we can enjoy listening to while we wait for the next Wintersun release, praying that it doesn't disappoint!
This list is a collection of the best albums by those bands.
In alphabetical order and featuring 1 album per band. I will add to this list over time as I discover more.

Nailed it with the Aether Realm recommendation. Found them last year and that album is incredible. I'm gonna check some of these that are unknown to me, like Atavistia, Blind Stare or Claim The Throne. Thanks for the list!

Posts: 1376 Written by Stunning Cactus on 05.08.2021 at 06:58 Tarot certainly is an overlooked gem (as are a lot of albums on this list). Out of the three you mentioned, Atavistia are probably my favourite and the closest to Wintersun's sound.

I just discovered Wintersun's debut album and I really liked it! I'll have to check out these bands too! I saw that you had said by a different thread that Wintersun are controversial. Why is that?

It's mostly Jari's approach to making money - releasing hardly any music (3 albums in 17 years!) but asking for tons of money to record new ones (the infamous crowdfunding project). Check out the comments section for their second or third albums and you'll see what I mean. I think it's mostly frustration over the lack of new music.

Have you heard of Foretoken? Not extreme power, but the symphonic elements and vocals are very Wintersun. Let me know what you think
