Before taking on a more accessible albeit controversial route of music perceived in the eyes of "traditional" metalheads, In Flames were heralded as one of the pioneers of a genre that underwent more changes than Wacko Jacko's wardrobe; having said that, the music in its pristine form is to this day a refreshing blend of melody and aggression. It may seem out of place for me to ramble on and on about In Flames here, but Insomnium's Since The Day It All Came Down is, quite bluntly put, a more darker and mellower evolution of the In Flames sound of yore. This does not mean that it is a rip-off; on the contrary, Insomnium has managed to hone this style of music in their own, unique mold. The result, ladies and gentleman, is a pure masterpiece.

I just finish listening to this album again and wanted to give it a rate, just realized I had already rated 2 months ago after clicking the album's title. The best thing happened was my rating was exactly the same now and then ! 5 at most.

Agreed.

3rd that. It may not be as polished and neatly produced as their later releases but the originality and energy makes this album stand apart.

Actually had to adjust my vote from 9 to 10 on this, I realised that I've lost count on how many times I've listened to this, and I'm still not bored of it.. The Moment of Reckoning is such an amazing song

After listening to it a couple of times, I think I can pick up a reminiscence of the earliest In Flames albums. I mean it as a praise, even though it may just be an impression. Whatever the case, this is high quality material.

I'm going through whole discography the second time, finding just the top tracks, and here they are hard to find, only 2, 3 and 5. Very few songs that stand out, parts of songs, sure, but whole songs not.

This is a very Impressive melodeath album, here they had proven to be a worthy comparison to Dark Tranquillity. Their debut was good but here they took it up a level and allowed the rhythm and melodies to simply flow fantastically well with consistency.

The songwriting overall is very good, with no tracks I would rate as sub par. Its also very well produced, you can here a clear bass line alongside the rhythm and lead guitarwork throughout, and the drumming is also mixed in very well, aswel as the vocals too, and the guitar tone is also great also. I don't know if I would call this one of their best, but it's very good.
