Top Releases of 2024

I'm surprised not to see a review for this one yet, I thought In Vain was considered top tier prog / melo death, similar to Be'lakor. This one didn't wow me on first listen, but neither did Currents, it took many listens for it to grow on me back then. I don't think it'll reach the peaks of Ænigma for me, but it still seems to be a very good album from these guys.

Great album... And man.. That Sax break in Season Of Unrest and the way it bleeds in with the vocals coming back, how fucking amazing was that?

We didn't get sent a promo copy of the album, and several albums I'm planning to review (including this one) were released this weekend while my laptop was at a repair shop, so it may take a few more days until one is up, but it is in the pipeline

Big in Vain fan over here, it took me around 8 full spins to fully appreciate this new one. Now its my favorite release of the year so far.

Nothing special here. Not bad, not great.

Band with great technique and feeling. vocals alternating perfectly remmember a little VIntersorg for me. Great album

Album of the year material but not quite there

I've been struggling with this one tbh, sure it's not badly made, there's certainly a few interesting moments (the last track especially, it's by far the strongest track), the production is more or less spot on, and I can't fault the musicianship in anyway, but there's still nothing I really find all that enjoyable or satisfying about it. I too often find the songwriting kinda bland, and there's certainly not enough to justify the album's length here for me here.

These guys can definitely still write a great hook

Album of the year contender for me. I couldn't find anything bad or mediocre about this album. Absolutely great stuff.

Still haven't listened to Ænigma but ths thing is growing on me..... Gotta write more..... Will be back....

I liked Currents more than this album. I couldn't connect much to tracks from 2 to 5. Rest were superb.

I listened to Aenigma a long time ago and decided to throw this on in the background. The first song has grabbed my attention! That midsection was so legendary, and the horns, followed by those incredible solos! Ugh, brilliant stuff, hopefully the rest of the album is as good.

1st song is really very good. Does anyone else feels that the cleans do not go with the harsher vocals at all, the contrast is way too much it seems.

I'm not a big prog guy, but this is pretty good! I like the various melodies and the alternating vocals: clean, blackened rasps, and deep growls
