For the ones who would have slept since 1988 , Gamma Ray was born due to the departure of Kai Hansen from Helloween. The band found their own sound in 1995 with the album "Land Of The Free". The line-up became stabilized in 1997 with the album "Somewhere Out In Space", including Dirk Schlachter , Daniel Zimmermann , Henjo Richter and of course Kai Hansen . Been spinning this one pretty regularly. My personal favorite is still Somewhere Out In Space but this one is just a consistent and enjoyable listen.

A well composed and performed album. I'd say there's not any unnessessary songs except for "Wings Of Destiny" and "Hands Of Fate". That makes the beginning part of the album really easy and skip-free listening experience. As for the best songs I'd say those would go to the opener "Anywhere In The Galaxy" and the closer "Armageddon", and I would be surprised if people generally didn't agree with these picks. For some reason the album works only for occasional listening for me. If I tried to play it a lot - maybe I did succesfully when I was younger and more in to PM... - it doesn't work and more and more songs start to lose their significance. If there is such difference as heavier gamma ray and melodic gamma ray albums I would easily put this album in latter category. I don't have a preference for whether they should play heavy or melodic as long as it's not typical modern flower power metal (does anyone even need any elaboration on this?  )P.S. the remaster version of "Rich & Famous" is a great song as well and IMO way better than the original one.

Starts off awesome with Anywhere In The Galaxy and Razorblade Sigh and ends with a bang with Armageddon, everything between though is a bit off.

A very nice sequel to glorious Somewhere Out In Space, with a lot of great songs! The highlights for me are: "Strangers In The Night", "Anywhere In The Galaxy", "Wings Of Destiny", "Send Me A Sign" and "Armageddon". Not as excellent as the two previous gems overall, but still a great album!
