After the release of their self-titled EP, Tristania became a part of a rising label at that time (1998), Napalm Records. They started working on their long-awaited debut album since "Tristania" had received good critics from the music press. Well, well, well?Tristania's Widow's Weeds. It is about time I wrote a review for one of my beloved albums. So, I will try to sum up the majesty of this album in these lines. Widow's Weeds is the first full-length of Tristania. The band was formed two years earlier by Einar Moen-keys, Keneth Olsson-drums and Morten Veland-guitars/vocals. Morten was the main figure behind Tristania back then. Both bands sure did make it big at the same time more or less and there are certain similarities, but there is a huge difference between Tristania's and TOT's style.

I still say till this day, this is one of the best gothic albums ever made, it's one of the most beautiful, epic, melodic, and passionate albums I've ever listened to. Beyond The Veil is also stunning, but this album is somthing else. Every song is powerful, and full of such emotion, and the melodies from all the instruments are outstandingly beautiful! especially the violin sections, which are blended perfectly with some epic guitar riffing, and Vibeke's vocals are breathtaking as always, together with the harsh growls that fit perfectly With the music. It's hard to pick a favourite song I love them all! Maybe December Elegy if I had to.
