Well well well, how does one begin to review an EPIC of these proportions? Let me start by saying this: Moonsorrow is one of my top favorite bands, so this review is probably a bit biased. I will do my best to describe it objectively though!

Those who know Moonsorrow have already probably noticed that over the course of their albums, their songs have been getting longer, more epic, less "catchy" and with much more time given to stretched-out beginnings and endings. Well, with only 2 tracks for the whole album, you might guess that this record is a definite continuation of that trend! Each of these 2 tracks is almost half an hour long. V. Havitetty (full name Viides Luku - Havitetty which means Chapter 5: Ravaged) very much continues where Verisakeet left off.

One of the main reasons I love this album is that its title sounds like "heavy titty".

Yeah, I'm totally not impressed by this album. I really hope it's a grower like Kivenkantaja (which is pretty damn awesome).

I love it when my opinion changes drastically. After 1-2 spins this was 7 material at best (see the above post) but after 5-6 spins I suddenly realize that this album is totally awesome.

Damn, what a grower of an album this is, indeed.

Damn, your score is hella grower.

Well, i have seen shifting of points in 0.5(maximum by 1) and you escalated to +2. I don't know but from next time, you should wait for record to sunk in and then punch a final score in end.

Yeah, such a big difference doesn't happen that often. Initially I was very underwhelmed by this album, but it's such a grower that I came to love it. Especially the 2nd song. Truly marvelous.

But yeah, you're right about judging an album when it has sunk in. I tend to NOT do that from time to time.

Happy that you enjoy it. Hopefully you can eventually appreciate the true greatness that is the first song

I can definitely appreciate the first song. Truly great stuff, but the 2nd song simply takes the cake here. No question about it, for me.

I see what you mean, for me it's very hard to say which one is the best because I think the second song has the most impressive moments while also having the most "weak" moments (and by most "weak" moments I mean maybe 1 or 2 lol) while the first song is solid all the way through but with a tad less impressive moments (still arguable in my head haha, maybe not less but THAT 2nd song ending... ).

But this album has perfect emotional moments all the way through it's totally GOD DAMN IMPRESSIVE!

Immensely powerful album, all packed in just 2 songs. 2 long songs that take you on a journey through the Scandinavian forests. Moonsorrow's best so far.

Feels a little bland and monotonous compared to the likes of Kivenkantaja or Voimasta Ja Kunniasta. A great record nonetheless.

This album is absolutely legendary, not sure they (or anyone for that matter) can ever get close to this level again.

I feel the same way. Undoubtedly this is my favourite of theirs, such a consistent force in sonic format.

I think the monotonous pummeling is exactly what reels me in so much. The musicla themes are nicely expanded and are so well glued together it just feels like a journey, never ever figured it to be bland in any way.

01. Jäästä Syntynyt / Varjojen Virta - 9/10
02. Tuleen Ajettu Maa - 8/10

Overall: 8.5/10 leaning towards a 9

One of their weaker albums, but still a great, atmospheric listen.

Listened to it once, I do really like it, not a dull moment for a blackened folk record. This may be higher than Agalloch's The Mantle.
