Since this review concerns a fast and energetic album, we'll get to the point as fast as possible. An ingenious acoustic guitar overture leads to an even better track with complex and spellbinding opening part, with clever lyrics and fine vocals. It's "Crystal Ann", the introduction to the song "Alison Hell", by far the most well-known work of the Canadian thrash group Annihilator. Yes, and this text here is about "Alice In Hell", their first album and also the one that many consider the best of their career.

Fabulous album, the bass is very audible, jeff waters is one hell of a guitarist, and the dsrums keep up well with everything else. Vocals aren't THAT good, which is why its a 9 from me and not any higher. But he still gives as good as he gets\m/

Yes, quite high, but regarding this as my favourite annihilator album, i feel that 'alice in hell' is deserving of at least a 9.

I listened to it after Never, Neverland, so I was very disappointed by the vocals. I first gave it a 7 because of the voice. After multiple listens, vocals are not that annoying, but still not that good ... Except for the vocals, the guitar, bass and drum work is absolutely awesome ! So I give it a 8, clearly a classic thrash metal album.

Then = Good, Now = Nothing's Special

it's still better than what any of the new thrash bands release. So now = still great,

I agree with Marcel that none of the "new wave" of thrash bands have recorded anything as great as this album. I'm still waiting for one of the new breed of thrashers to blow me away with something like "Peace Sells", "Ride The Lightning", "Bonded By Blood", or indeed, this album. I have a feeling I'll be waiting a long time though!

Amazing album. Brilliant technical thrash metal is played here. Each song is great but my favourites are probably "Ligeia", "Wicked Mystic" and of course "Alison Hell" (that riff).

Randy Rampage was fired by Jeff Waters ?

Punk Globe -Tell us about Annihilator?
Randy: FOR ME ANNIHILATOR WAS A FUCKIN BLAST!! IT WAS LIKE THIS METAL BAND THAT WAS REALLY HOT AT THE TIME BUT DIDN"T HAVE A FRONT MAN . SO THEIR MANAGER {A LOCAL MUSIC &PORN PROMOTER} WHO D.O.A. HAD PLAYED FOR MANY TIMES RECRUITED ME. I HAD NEVER REALLY DONE ANY SERIOUS VOCAL WORK BEFORE SO WHEN GARY ASKED ME IF I KNEW OF ANY HEAVY METAL SINGERS WHO WERE LOOKING FOR A GIG, I OPENED MY MOUTH AND SAID I WAS THE GUY AND THEN WE WERE IN A RECORDING STUDIO. NEXT THING I WAS IN FIASCO BROTHERS RECORDING. ANNIHALTOR WAS A GOOD RUN ESPECIALLY IN EUROPE. I GOT FIRED FOR BEATING UP THE GUITAR PLAYER SONGWRITER.

Who is the guitar player songwriter ? Jeff Waters or Dave Davis ?

Jeff Waters is the main man in the Annihilator.

According to the inlay card for the reissued Alice In Hell/Never Neverland combined release, Randy decided to quit the band to focus on a well paying job in the port.

No idea what the thruth is.

Randy was fired for the reason Randy said in that interview. At the time when Randy was fired Jeff Waters even gave that exact same reason in interviews and in a press statement.

Acording to Jeff, the guys from Megadeth were singing the tunes of this Album when they were on their way to record Rust in Peace. It's a funny little fact

Alison Hell is one of the best metal songs ever, their sound is also very unique...but unfortunately I can't say I listen that much to the rest of the album . It has its kicks-ass moments, but the song-writing is kinda lacking and the vocals are horrible.

The vocals in this album arent that great and the drumming is particularly lack lustre. Saved by some awesome guitar and bass work though.

The vocals in this album rent that great and the drumming is particularly lack lustre. Saved by some awesome guitar and bass work though.

I used to really love this album, but nowadays I can't really get passed the first three songs or so without getting bored of it. Definitely suffers from subpar vocals. I honestly think the follow up might be a bit better

If you are young, full of energy and have a raging hard on to fuck a 1000 bitches, listen to the title track then smash the CD to pieces. If you are old with at least 5 grandkids, this is a perfect template to sit by the beach, watch the sunset and reminiscence the good old days when you had energy.

You are not metal enough until you visit Kenya. The cradle of mankind, where man learnt first to work with stones and first enjoyed the sounds produced by banging stones which later influenced metal in all its sounds and genres.

Legendary album, one the essentials of old-school late 80's thrash. However, I don't think it's perfect in any way. There's something about the dry-sounding production that really sucks the life out of it for me. Other than that, after the classic Alison Hell the rest of the songs just feel mediocre to good rather than purely awesome and kickass. I don't think they ever got this good agai... or maybe I should give Never, Neverland a listen again. Not too familiar with that one.

I listened to this for the first time today while bed-ridden with erysipelas. It made me forget all about the pain and the fever. That's how good this album is. Fantastic and fantastically fun thrash. Thrash to cure your rash, in other words.

Thrash with quite a lot of speed metal to it. The guitars are the standing out factor here, like it has been mentioned on the comments and in reviews too; the riffs are great and there are good memorable parts and melodies. The song writing clearly isn't the best heard in this genre, which makes it weird to rate the album this high, it's just how it goes some times. I still gotta say that I find the songs rather good, just not as good as most tier 1 thrash classic songs. My farvorite on the album is the last song, Human Insecticide.
