In what can only be described as a natural progression of one of the most highly regarded melodic death metal albums of the decade in Stone's Reach, Be'lakor have taken to the studio once more with the hopes of building on their already unrelenting momentum.

I realise it's a good rating in comparison, but then again most bands' efforts are worthless.

...What? Is this the only good album this year?

I admit to exaggerating the amount of praise this album deserves, but my rating proceeded only after a few spins at which point I had yet to tire of it. I am still in the process of re-rating most of the albums to a lower level But yes, this is the album that had the greatest impression on me this year; I'm a sucker for melodies as opposed to complexity, as much as I love a good amalgamation of the two

But there is nothing special or interesting about it, I could predict how most of the songs would go on, it's repeating the same old style of all the other melo death in the most imitating way, I mean following exactly the same musical path as all the other melo death did

I guess you don't waste enough time on MS like me since you didn't get the reference.
I agree with what you said about this album, though I put this band above most other melodeath bands these days.

I've been playing this WAY too much lately and it seems to have grown on me to the point where I'd put it in my top 5 Melodeath albums ever.

I would describe this band as almost an acquired taste. When I first heard this album, it was different, but I didn't feel anything too special about it. Upon a second listening, I really started taking notice of a few songs that stand out. Remnants, in particular, is a beautifully written song. Asbit Omen also stood out. I listened to it a third time, and really liked it. At this point, I almost can't stop listening to it. I personally like it as much as Stone's Reach, and Be'lakor is really growing on me as a whole. They are in production for their fourth album now and I am eagerly awaiting.

Their best album IMO. An improvement over Stone's Reach.

It took some time for me to come around to that opinion but that's how I feel now. Once I realized my adoration for Stone's Reach had a lot more to do with nostalgia and where I was in my life when it was released, revisiting it after a time away just didn't evoke the same level of feeling it did before.

But this one still stands as one of my all-time favorite albums nearly a decade after reviewing it.

Overall not a bad album but again not a great one, oddly I'm getting a Katatonia vibe from the melancholic style and sound. Unfortunately the riffs don't seem very inspiring to me, most of the melodies sound a wee bit generic and the song structures can get too tedious at times, but aswel as that I also find the songwriting a little on the dull side. Stone's Reach was much better imo, the songwriting was much more interesting, and there was certainly more memorable moments throughout that album. The one thing that stands out is the excellent drumming, which for me has completely outshone the guitarwork.

The album does get better towards the end though, I can't say I'm all that impressed with the first half of the album. "In Parting", and "By Moon And Star" are the two tracks that stood out for me most, although there's nothing particularly special about them.
