Thick As A Brick could well be one of the most ambitious albums ever made; certainly back in its day it was. Although this kind of concept was not entirely original, it had never been done before to this extent. It combines every aspect of rock material with truly clever and humorous lyrics, making Thick As A Brick such a special album within the progressive genre.

I can't say I agree. Brick represents one very specific style and era for Jethro Tull. It's hardly representative of their entire back catalogue. That said, it's my favorite of the albums that I know by them. I'm not an expert nor a huge fan, but it's probably my favorite prog rock album of its time (or ever, maybe).

why a sequel to TAAB? this will rise up people's expectations too much; and JT does not deliver the great music they used to. I'm skeptical already.

I fear the results as well, but dammit I've been waiting for that countdown on the website to end for months! I'm not writing the band off just yet, who knows?

This album is the work of a band at their creative peak. You can hardly ignore the intensity of the drum solos and insane use of the keyboards, not to mention the other instruments each playing their own part beautifully. Anderson's vocals fit the nature of the lyrics perfectly, and though some may argue he doesn't favour the flute as much as on earlier releases, i believe you really have to listen to the whole of the through and through to see that the use of the flute is significant. Roll on part 2 of Thick as a Brick this year...

One of the best prog albums of all time, which is ironic consider they made the record with intentions of making fun of the prog scene

Not fully convinced that having these long ass songs is the best format for this music. HAving the album in digital, though, enables to do some splittin'

Listened to it a few more times and now it's pretty safe to say that the album definitely has some of the best JT material ever. However with this song format and a few skippable moments it doesn't feel like a real masterpiece to me. Still I can see myself listening to it again

This one's a legit prog classic, despite actually being a parody of one. Maybe the latter's the reason why it's so inspired and witty and feels very tight and whole even if it only has two ridiculously long songs. It actually gets even funnier if you bother to invest some time and pay attention to every little detail it has to offer. The cover art is the best part, every story is as smart, wacky and surreal as it gets and the title literally mean "dumb as f**k" but back in the day people really didn't understand the language and took the whole thing very seriously.
