Mid and late '80s were the best times for thrash metal. Most of bands like Slayer, Metallica or Megadeth recorded their best albums then. It was golden times for thrash metal. Among the best there was a Brazilian band called: Sepultura (which means: grave). One of the most important thrash bands.

All Sepultura's album from "Schizophrenia" to "Chaos A.D." are great. They play great, fast and brutal although simple music. Max Cavalera was great as leader of the group. He influenced the rest of the band to do their best. "Beneath The Remains" is their second fastest album after "Arise". It feels like travelling at the speed of light. Whole album is filled with simple but already classical riffs (just look at "Inner Self" and "Mass Hypnosis").

Theres no point in keeping up with this conversation, since you pretty much raised the bar saying Kreator is Death/Thrash. Also, Accept being Teutonic Thrash, that was good as well.

Plus the fact he said Morbid Angel where you mentioned Morbid Saint and him saying Morbid Angel were considered death metal + grindcore when in fact not a single soul at the time considered them to have anything to do with grindcore.

Totally missed that one. I guess I lost my shit at the "Entombed music isnt fast at all" part.

A good choice for my favourite Thrash Album of all time. Perfect on every Level, Sepulturas definitive hour.

Agree with you - for me this is the best release by Sepultura.

I agree whit it, never was fan of later material , band is in list to not see live even they will play old songs , I stop following this band

Probably my favorite guitar tone ever, def. my favourite guitar tone in thrash-metal. It sounds so grainy and tasty. Great songwritting as well, and Max Cavalera at his finest.

Wow just listened to this album for the first time in ages and forgot how intense it is! I love the feel of this album; the lyrics and vocal delivery have a real adolescent angst to them yet the song structures are very mature and complex. Overall the album just has a really gritty, dark tone to it which I love! Definitely one of my all time faves, perfect album in my eyes.

I did same, Inner Self is my fav song from them. Good speed, aggression into music, mix between 2 genres as many bands did it then, quality is OK, but could be better. Decent album,. when metal was simple thing, simple way of life whit FTW patch on your letter jacket. Nihilism hehhe, today all music and its making process is different. Bad and poor bands can put better sound as that period bands, but then good and good studio work was better.

not sure you understood my post.
It's a nostalgia album for me, because I listened to it in the 90s. And those were simpler, better times for me, personally.

So good to return to this. Doing it right now.
At par with Arise, both masterpieces, for me.

Not as strong as Arise but still a great old school thrash album.

Brilliant debut, and my favourite Sepultura album, with not much for me to fault, it's just pure solid classic old school thrash.

Sorry I completely missed those two out, I often overlooked Schizophrenia in the past, maybe I should replay it again sometime and see if I like it more now than I used to. As for Morbid Visions I've never listened to it fully.

And to this date, it's amusing to see "Death Metal"
tag attached to this.

Give a raise to whoever did a genre tagging.

What a phenomenal classic! It was amazing to revisit this album - they're so much ultra fast, aggressive, and addictive energy! No weak moment throughout the album and so many tasty riffs to choose from!

I think it might be slightly better than Arise, but I'm not sure. Just like with Arise, the first three tracks here are flawless.

Other than the three opening tracks, my favorites here are: "Sarcastic Existence" (so many fantastic riffs in this one!), "Slaves of Pain" (high-speed thrash perfection!), and "Lobotomy" (includes a great solo and of course catchy riffs!)

Still kicks ass after all these years. I remember introducing thrash metal to some of my friends by playing them some of this stuff back in the school.
