I first listened to Symphony X when I found their album Paradise Lost on the website allmusic.com around 2008-10 time. I was blown away by the combination of technicality, melody and heaviness, so much so that Michael Romeo has become one of my all-time favourite guitarists. Since then, I've gone on to discover their other albums that are equally as good (The Odyssey and The Divine Wings Of Tragedy), making them one of my favourite bands of all time.
