Mastodon is back!!! Blood Mountain could be one of the most anticipated Relapse albums since the Suffocation come back and finally we have the chance to hear what these guys are up to now. My hopes were really high as when I first heard this band (with their album Remission ) they shocked me like no other band has shocked me before. So here's my objective review about their new record.

With time I'm liking this album more and more. My favorite one from Mastodon, for sure.
Saw them live yesterday, "Crystal Skull" was a party

Full of half-baked ideas and songs that go nowhere, but also contains a few surprises.

In my opinion, their best album. I enjoy literally every song, but probably my favorite is Siberian Divide.

I don't know if I'd call this their best album, but it's definitely their best drum-wise. Brann Dailor is simply a monster on this one.

I still find Remission their best by far on all fronts.

Think this is their proggiest and agree it's Brann Dailor's best. Drumming is top notch. Monstrous indeed.

Would eb nice to like this album more than I actually do. The second half just sounds so tame and uneventful in comparison to the first half which I really enjoyed. A strong 7.
Definitely inferior to the two previous albums.

I'd say it's the weakest of the elemental-themed albums. Definitely agree on the first half vs second half thing. I always think "damn, maybe this album is better than I remember" when on the first few tracks, but then lose interest the further I go.

As with Leviathan, this grows on me with more listens. Very diverse melodies and addictive sludgy goodness throughout

Loved Leviathan and Crack the Skye but always found Blood Mountain a bit hit & miss personally. There are still some crackers but also a few which don't do much for me as well.

I used to really love Mastodon but I've not listened to much of them in recent years. I just got bored of them I suppose. It is the same with Opeth.

Blood Mountain has some interesting parts, but at the moment my favorites are Remission and Leviathan

What to say about Mastodon?
One of the bands that impacted me the most a few years ago. My avatar's name is in his honor.
This, along with Leviathan, are my favorite albums.
The riffs, their rhythm to the drums and the change of voices.
A force of nature at the controls of the bass, Troy should be your undisputed frontman, with that imposing image on stage.
Very good!!
