There is no need to say much about Finland's Amorphis anymore. Yes, they use to play Melodic Death until 1997 then turned into a one-of-a-kind skillful heavy metal/rock band. Silent Waters is only the second album since vocalist Tomi Joutsen joined the band to replace Pasi Koskinen, following 2006's Eclipse, which was an album that surprised a lot of people by its versatility.

I love this album. It features some of my favorite songs by the band, including the acoustic ballad "Enigma", which I actually made my own cover of using the piano and a mellotron app i bought off of iTunes.

Ordinary men hate solitude. But the Master makes use of it, embracing his aloneness, realizing he is one with the whole universe (Lao Tzu).

I can't stand the fact that I discovered Amorphis only because Netta Dahlberg worked both with them and Elvenking. I feel the greatest idiot in the whole fucking world. Anyway, this album really blew me away, I discovered something I couldn't imagine. Great.

Stunning Cactus
I am halfway through the album, and I am thoroughly enjoying it! The only song I had originally heard was Silent Waters, so I was surprised to find all the screaming and heavier songs. I really like all of it.

I am just getting into Amorphis' discography (listened to a lot of their hits) and I must say that from everything I've listened to this point with Silent Waters the most latest album, this is by far and away their best one (absolutely crushes Ecilpse for me). Every song is unique, but matches the overall sound of the album, which comes across as a passionate melodic piece deep within a creep forest lake where you feel the emotions of anger, distress, intrigue, loneliness, and hope.

I've always found Amorphis to be amongst the most consistent bands, I can't ever recall listening to an album of theirs that I've not liked.

I am not necessarily a death metal fan anymore (sort of grew out of that genre), however, I think you're onto something because I don't think I have truly heard a bad album under their changes' of music. I do admit I am not a big fan of "From from the Sun" and some of the "Ad Universum", but even then they aren't bad...just boring. Another band that I think has a very consistent discography is Angra and even then they made that dud of an album called "Fireworks".

I will have to check out more albums by Angra then I've recently been getting more into that kind of power metal.

This is certainly one of their best albums for me. There's some seriously impressive songwriting on here, their keyboard and acoustic melodies are fantastic, some of the riffs are great and so are the clean vocals too

I've been loving Amorphis recently too. They're quite a new discovery for me and they have a lot of music to listen through

Are you catching them on tour this month?

They're a great band, I wish I could catch them on tour but because of certain commitments I'm unfortunately unable to travel
