You know there's something odd with your Yellow Eyes album when the title isn't three words randomly strung together. Instead we have something more like a detour EP experimenting more with how the band sounds like when the metal is stripped away.

It' s f*** weird. Clearly not black metal, maybe "Black metal inspired horror movie music".

It's definitely a weird concept, in a blackened, atmospheric, aventgarde'ish kinda way. There's lot's of odd synth work involved like the farm animals and bell rings for example, and I'm not too keen on the vocals, so it doesn't really sit well with me as a whole, but I admire their strangely ambitious effort.

I can definitely see strong divided opinions developing on this one.

I wasn't overly keen on Yellow Eyes when I listened to them being a black metal band. As a dungeon synth/black metal band... I think they do a decent job of fusing the two at moments like late in Winter Is Looking, but the straight synth stuff with the croaky black metal vocals doesn't work particularly well for me, and the more black-oriented stuff (The Ritual Is Gone) just feels like a mess of harsh sounds rather than anything actually engaging

I don´t know what prompted them to release this album before Confusing Gates! It does not hold its own as a standalone album, but I am enjoying this WAAAY more in the context of both albums together.
