If I were Andy, I would have had a shitload of fun with new and good (!) music every day. That's an extraordinarily great year in my book and in every book I've ever read. After more than three decades as a metalhead, I have not only learned to appreciate good music, I've also learned to differentiate between good, very good, excellent and perfect music. To me a rating of 7/10 means good, which is a positive assessment and I wish more people saw it that way. There's nothing bad about good and I like good music almost as much as I like very good music. Don't tell me you don't.

Simultaneously, I proposed two plausible explanations, one being that he is more critical listener than I am, a perspective I genuinely believe. This isn't judgmental, and there's nothing wrong with being more discerning. I don't think Andy took it as a disapproval of his votes, unlike how you interpreted it. I'm the kind of listener who cherishes and repeatedly listens to a masterpiece album, even if it means missing out on many very good and good ones. I need to apologize, however, as I may have come across as condescending. It seems to me that you approach music differently than I do, and that's perfectly fine if it brings you joy. I've learned long ago that there's no 'right' way of listening and experiencing music; we are unique individuals with different tastes, and that diversity in our approach to music is both expected and completely acceptable.

Couldn't agree more my friend. It's very easily a top 10 contender for me, but this year has been so insane for releases that it missed out on mine by quite a distance. But if it was released in almost any other year it's possibly nailed on top 10. But it's still incredibly high on my list considering how many new releases I've listened to.

Not sure if you've heard Taubrą - Therizo but I didn't notice it on your extremely large list so I thought I'd recommend it haha. We seem to have a very similar taste in Black metal so it's definitely one I think more people need to hear. The main guy from Aara is on guitars. Edit: I tried tagging the band page but it didn't work. Still not sure how to do that

I am curious, last year you had 30 albums that were 8 or higher, this year almost 80 and twice as many that are 8.5 or higher. Do you feel this year had that much higher quality that last or do you feel more generous with your ratings?

I've actually managed to invest time between listening to new releases to go back to last year's releases, for some I may have missed, but also for some I feel I may have underrated, and there's still very few from last year that really stand out for me. Other than the odd stand-out track from a particular album I actually find Panzerfaust, Psychonaut, Darkest Era and Jade the only albums I've found myself revisit on a regular basis, whereas this year there's that many I sometimes struggle which release to listen to next.

Posts: 1172 Written by AndyMetalFreak on 22.12.2023 at 19:05 For me my three top albums from Chat Pile, An Abstract Illusion and Brutus are still better to me than most I’ve listened to this year but I agree that overall I’ve had many more standouts this year. I did like the Psychonaut and Jade albums a lot but haven’t gone back to listen in awhile. Nearly 800 albums though, impressive! Maybe 900 next year?  for me I will maybe get half what I listened to this year, just started a new role at work this month and I no longer have the free time I did so I’m sure I’ll be skimming your list to hit the best ones

Posts: 6610 Written by Vellichor on 22.12.2023 at 19:37 I've actually surprised myself how much I've listened to this year, I didn't have a particular target in mind at the beginning but was hoping to hit a similar amount as the previous year, so roughly around the 650 mark and anything more would be a bonus. I'm already looking forward to what next year brings, I would like to hit a similar amount but I doubt I'll surpass this years.
