After a couple of spins in I can't say I'm all that impressed tbh. There's nothing wrong performance-wise or in terms of production, but other than the occasional groovy riff and decent Hobbs solo I find it to be yet another typical run-of-the-mill brutal slamming Suffocation release. Pierced From Within is still the only release of theirs that I find impressed me, and that's mainly due to it's memorable guitar tone.

Solid brutal DM release. Immortal Execration is definitely a track. Doesn't capture the magic of their early material but there will be several songs I'll come back to.

There are few DM albums that sound as good as Pierced From Within. The guitar and bass are so meaty.

I agree, it's still one of the best sounding DM releases in history in terms of bass and guitar tone.

Nice to know this band still hasn’t released anything worth jack shit since the 90s.

I'm not on the same page as you all. Suffocation are great not for the sound but for the great compositions. Despise The sun was good, Souls To Deny was good, the self tilted was good, Blood Oath was good, Pinacle of Bedlam was good.

From then it's complicated because the sound becomes really modern and lack a death vibe, but foremost the song structures are a real mess. One song is hardly enjoyable on it's on, and several songs are hard to tell apart. In the end as the first comment stated it's run of the mill. I would have been impressed if this was AI generated. I never got the Mullen praise but it's true that something is lacking in the vocals too. The last song being from Breeding The Spawn is more enjoyable. There's Frank too, even if his voice is heavily processed. It's better, if mentionnable.

Or maybe I need more time to digest it. But I haven't digested Of The Dark Light yet. Or is it a switch in style we'll have to accept? it seems to still gather fans.

I agree entirely. 3 of their first 4 albums after the "come back" were very good. Undoubtedly they weren't as good as the 90's records, but to suggest everything they've recorded since is terrible, is cobblers. I particularly enjoyed Pinnacle of Bedlam.

Admittedly I never got around to listening to Of the Dark Light but this new one is leaving me cold as well. Every track blurs in to one, which to me indicates they've run out of ideas. it comes across as a random assortment of riffs, and a lot of them sound like they've been recycled to me as well.

This is one of those bands that by all rights I should love, but I don't. Death Metal/Brutal Death is my realm, but Suffocation does nothing for me.
