Leave any expectations you have from Avenged Sevenfold at the door, because Life Is Just A Dream… is pushing the band’s boundaries so much that it cannot be anything but divisive. It is one of the most ambitious and surprising albums of the year, and it is impressive how over-the-top it gets, regarding music genres blending together. To claim that its influences are broad would be an understatement; Mr. Bungle, Alice In Chains, Frank Zappa, System Of A Down, Pink Floyd, Dream Theater, Daft Punk, Faith No More, Frank Sinatra, Nine Inch Nails, Rush… there is no end to the list. This is an alternative metal act going progressive, avantgarde, pop, experimental, and, quite frankly, batshit crazy. Being a Jack of all trades is one thing, but also being a master of almost all of them, like Avenged Sevenfold are on this album… well, that deserves respect and applause. On a first listen all I can say is that the instrumental prowess and musicianship of this band is still great, also this caught my attention from start to end. Will give many spins before a rating. Highlight: Cosmic

Weird and hard to rate this one. I think it was good and full of effort to break the genre walls but almost none of the songs did just right for me. I can probably see myself getting to like this with more spins. It's definitely something new

This is the worst album I've heard this year. Avantgarde and progressive it definitely isn't. It is definitely alternative. To any good music.

To me it is yes, I dunno how people go about their ratings. But I do it judged by the artist in question and their discography, not to the overall music industry as I can't compare it on that scale since I dont know the entire music industry like the back of my palm. So this album to me is absolutely a 1/10. I'm fine with people not agreeing, I understand people have different tastes. But ya'll gotta learn to accept people have different tastes <3 Play nice people
