There’s nothing inherently wrong with playing it safe when releasing an album after a 9-year-long hiatus. In fact, it may be a wise approach, if not artistically, then commercially. Playing to your existing fanbase’s nostalgia will probably be more profitable than taking creative risks to attract new listeners. The former statement may imply that Everything Destroys You is a worthless cash grab, which it is not. But it is also not a masterpiece.

Wow they're not dead after all? Not sure this is good news though as I didn't like The Perfect Cult at all. :/

I wont even bother rating this. I guess the diehards will like it. When you put so many constraints on your style with the same harmonies, same lyric deliveries, identical song structures, it's not worth listening it to more than once. Not to mention trying so hard to be edgy and dark all the time it's borderline cringe. What was cool in 2003, ain't so cool in 2023. Pass

I'm a die-hard (was?), but I agree with you 100%. This album is so instant-made, it's just a bad NEN/TPC mash-up. There are no standout songs, the structures are repetitive, tracks are so easily forgettable.
I'll give it a couple of more spins, but I'm not optimistic I will find anything meaningful even after a few listenings.

I can't help to get the feeling, they are not even enjoying it anymore.....

You think darkness is your ally? You merely adopted the dark. I was born in it. Molded by it. I didn't see the light until I was a man. But it was nothing to me but blinding.

A Nice Guy
Well, it's not dreadful, but I'm not impressed either. I'm not keen on the vocals and the songwriting is quite uninspiring imo. I've definitely heard better.

that's the feeling that I get as well, coz it sounds so tired, which is ridiculous given that there was a 9 years since the last album. Oh well, time to go back to Synthetic Generation & Termination Bliss once in a blue moon to forget about this.

I am somehow glad to see that we share the feeling as comments on YT seem so happy to get a new yet shitty release. Termination Bliss is so great that I never expected another album of such quality but so far this new album has nothing special, it' not even enjoyable. Will try to listen till the end but already The Perfect Cult was pretty meh, I am afraid this new one will not be any better.

Lot of hate for this one but I think it's overall quite enjoyable. The Perfect Cult was even better. I know there's a lot of love for their earlier albums, but honestly I don't find them to be as catchy. Maybe it's nostalgia people have with them?

Nope, I don't mind nostalgia, all I care about is good music and this album is plain boring and it is clealy to happy to fit a Deathstars album. Glad you like it, I don't.

Well, I actually listen to dark metal and post-black metal. Besides some Rammstein and Evil Invaders and stuff that keeps an intense tragic or evil vibe.

I'm kinda split on this one.

I guess what made Synthetic Generation and Termination bliss so good to me is that the guitar sound was relatively aggressive. The melodies were relatively unconventionl with relatively tragic elements. Mostly in chorus. Most of the lyrics and voice performance managed to give many songs some kind of twist moments and vibe of viciousness. All of that in a relatively intense level throughout all of the songs. And that just never gets old.

It's similar do COF Dusk and her embrace and Midian. You know they sound quite different. But they greatly doing the job on their own terms.

The albums after Termination bliss lost a bit of focus on that. Night electric night was middleground. Enjoyable but not impressive by any means. Perfect Cult was more different though. For the most part because of the lack of the second guitar. They just put the keyboard more in the foreground instead. For someone who loves aggressive guitar sound, that can be a bummer. Absolutely unenjoyable for me - except from "the devils toys".

From the new album I enjoy "This is", "Anti All", "Everything destroy you "and "Blood for miles" very much. But the rest of the album gets very boring to me very fast. They are too layback for me. There is just a lack of energy and inspiration. And I can't hear the whole album all at once. It's actually more dark rock than any kind of metal at this point. Similar to COF Nymphetamine.

I get where the different opinions come from though. If you just want the overall deathstars sound with some fresh elements. You just get what you want here. If you are looking for harder sound and meoldies that at least are not that catchy on the simplest level, it's rough to enjoy.
