Nearly 30 years into their run, Blut Aus Nord sure aren’t running out of ideas anytime soon.

Bring it on!

Once again, the cover art by Maciej Kamuda

"The main inspiration here was, like with my previous cover, obviously H.P. Lovecraft as the new BAN album keeps exploring these nightmarish themes. It was planned to have something less complicated and detailed but with a specific dark atmosphere, less colorful and more mysterious – inspired by old black and white horror movies and with the vibe of an old photograph. The style from the first "Disharmonium" album did not really fit here. I always choose the aesthetic depending on the idea, it just has to compliment the whole concept in the best way possible. Because I am able to work in different styles and aesthetics, I can play around with it more and choose the technique that will bring the right atmosphere to the artwork. It is, in the end, a matter of how I feel the idea, honestly. The creative process indeed always is a process. This means there is a lot of decision making to get to the final product and to do it right!"

I think nahab is Arabic for love? Not sure.

So it doesn't, but it can mean "we scare", where hab would be the verb to scare, but maybe could be interpreted as "we are afraid", too. Maybe also "to steal", the pronunciation isn't clear from the romanization.

thanks this is appreciated. I thought it comes from "hob" root.
It has been so many years from my Arabic lessons that I've forgotten most of it.

I only just happened to have a friend from Lebanon sitting next to me so. He did mention the "hob" part, so that is right in your memory x)

Considering how good Undreamable Abysses was, I'm really looking forward to this now. BAN seem to be at their best when they do things in series... ie the 777 trilogy, the Liber EPs, even the Memoria Vetusta albums aren't that bad, just not quite as crazy and experimental. This seems as though it's a new such venture, Vindsval going at a new series of albums revolving around this whole Lovecraft / cosmic horror thing. I'm hyped as fuck.

It's bizarre, weird, eerie, odd, eccentric, outlandish, in other words - perfect. A breath of fresh air on the BM front.

It's good stuff sure, just as I expected it to be, and the band undoubtedly creates a certain unique atmosphere that no other band can even compare too, but I'm afraid this particular route they're on is on the verge of running it's course. For me it seems too much like an exact follow-on from the previous release, it's a good listen at first, but once you've got through it, it quickly becomes a chore to get through next time round.

I guess that's the reason why I've struggled with their past trilogies.

This one will have to compete with Hasard for the spookiest album of the year. Good continuation from their last album with some minor variations in sound.

I could end up enjoying this slightly more than Undreamable Abysses after a few more spins. Continues that direction while also being a bit more of a banger, and the fusion of the BM with the industrial and the psych in the second half is just unreal.

Good atmosphere and classic BaN dissonance. Just suffers from really aimless songwriting.

That's the problem I find, I've tried many times with this album and their previous, they've got such a unique style and sound unlike any other, but the songwriting just seems to fall flat, there's no moments that make me think wow.

The problem this album has is that the previous one did everything much better. With the exception of Nameless Rites, there is readlly no reason to try to listen to this album over Undreamable Abysses.
