I don't know how much credibility a band can have if they make an album that's packed with lyrics that talk about raping dead girls, or about smashing some random guy's face with a hammer. Now the most popular Cannibal Corpse song rest in this album along with the bloodiest lyrics in their history.

This album is at least more technical than "Butchered At Birth" and "Eaten Back To Life" the music here is a little more complex and better elaborated, the effort is shown in songs like "Hammer Smashed Face"(cannibal Corpse most popular song) with maddening and unforgettable riffs, a crushing bass playing, and incredibly fast drumming. and "I Cum Blood" showing incredible pulsations, here the guitars are no longer played arbitrarily like in "Eaten Back To Life" where the guitar sounded incredibly poor with no textures or good difficult solos.

"This next song, is about shooting blood out of your cock!" - Ah, George "Corpsegrinder" Fisher makes sure you're well prepared for a truly deep analysis of the human psyche in the live version of "I Cum Blood". But if I drop the sarcasm for one moment, you'd think that reviewing ANY Cannibal Corpse album at this point would be completely and utterly redundant. Well, I actually decided to review Tomb of the Mutilated because I felt that I actually had a somewhat original take on it, namely because this is the first Cannibal Corpse album I've ever listened to.

It's not their best album in my opinion, but it comes damn close. I prefer barnes' vocals on 'The Bleeding' (which a lot of people find annoying i think), but 'Tomb...' has some chaotic moments too, not to mention that every one of its songs is disgustingly addictive (i made that term up. You're all welcome to shout abuse at me).

The cover art is sick and vile and pushes the boundaries, but I guess that's what makes it iconic. The lyrics are very sick, but all for fun I guess because I'm a total idiot, and I enjoy fantasising about smashing a hammer in someone's face, and spliting them wide open obviously

As for the music it's self, it's ok, classic headbanging grooves, and death metal as brutal as it gets. I can't say I'm fond of the vocals though, there's being harsh and then there's just this (over the top). It's not a masterpiece musically by any means, but it makes death metalheads headbang their way to oblivion, which is the aim I suppose.

Whoops I definitely knew that! It’s a shame because with CG’s better vocal work, the instrumentation and songwriting starts to slow down.
