Helstar - Vampiro

I had a really hard time listening to this. James Rivera is just doing random shit at this point. The only song he hits some actual notes is the last one.

They dropped the tough guy act...My favorite since Nosferatu!

Good music wise but james does sound a bit tired on this one

Gave this another chance yesterday, pretty good, but far from the previous album - This Wicked Nest.

Of the records since the comeback this one is most reminiscent of the classic Helstar. In fact it sounds like a natural follow up to Nosferatu. While the other comeback records have been meaty and quite straight forward this one is more technical and offers a wider variation in song structure and ideas. There are some songs that really stands out and almost takes place among Helstars classic songs, for me it's mainly "To Their Death Beds They Fell" but "Off With His Head" and "From The Pulpit To The Pit" for example are nearly as good. The big problem why I don't rate it higher is the length of the album which at 60 minutes is way too much, 45-50 minutes would have been good enough.

Somehow goes back in time at 2016 with a time machine to times of glory of power metal. I expected much worse from them at this year. I will listen some more and put rating later.

Overall result is quite good. Maybe too modern sounding production and I don't wanna mess amp settings for a single album. Good record, can't touch Nosferatu and A Distant Thunder

Good one. One of their best IMHO. Less thrashy then the ones before (which I still like though).

Faves: Blood Lust, Off With His Head, To Their Death Beds They Fell, Abolish The Sun and Black Cathedral
