Their latest album was such a disappointment that I don't know what to expect next. Too bad as they have done great things ! Fingers crossed.

I think dissapointment is the right word for this album. Maybe in the future they can improve their old sound instead of doing whatever this is.

People on more generalized music sites (sputnikmusic and rateyourmusic) have been praising this album a lot. I've really liked what I've heard from the singles, and might actually write a review for this. Whitechapel actually has an identity now.

Bozeman is a beast! Amazing variation in his gutturals and screams, and this guy has a great singing voice! Great vocal patterns and lyrics you can understand without reading the booklet.
There are actually clean riff leads and death metal parts. Superb drumming.

Have you heard "The Great Collapse" by Fit for an Autopsy? I'd recommend that album heartily, has a good mixture of heavy as fuck riffage and melodic parts, though no such beautiful cleans as Phil's.

A lot of deathcore bands have fantastic vocalists with a ton of variation. It's become a trademark of the genre. The genre used to actually deserve the negative reputation it had, but the past few years have been absolutely ridiculously good for the scene.

I still gotta get around to cleaning up my deathcore list, but I will second the Fit For An Autopsy recommendation. That album is by far the closest thing to this, just with more of a bleak/pessimistic focus instead of outright anger/sadness. Also worth checking out the split they did, The Depression Sessions. The others on this list aren't anywhere as close. They'll have one or two aspects that this album does, and that's it.

For another emotional deathcore album, Make Them Suffer's debut Neverbloom is great as well. A little too breakdown-heavy at times, but the keyboards and lyrics make this album a standout. If the breakdowns are too much for you, their newer metalcore stuff is even better IMO.

Slice The Cake's Odyssey to the West is a really proggy deathcore epic with a lot of softer moments and clean singing. To give an idea, it got more attention on /r/progmetal than on /r/deathcore.

Shadow Of Intent's Reclaimer was hands down one of my favorite releases of 2017. It gets tiring by the end (most deathcore albums suffer from this, Whitechapel here sidestepped it with a lighter second half) but they succeeded in their grand and ambitious concept.

If you want something that sounds more like standard death metal, Thy Art Is Murder's new album Dear Desolation got the attention of a lot of people from outside the deathcore scene. It's hard-hitting, energetic, a little catchy, and has some extremely bleak moments within.

There's a lot more good deathcore albums out there, I just listed the ones that are vaguely similar to what you liked about this one.

Phil Bozeman is an incredible vocalist and honestly could find himself in a far more financially successful situation if he decided to jump ship and form a radio-friendly alt rock outfit, but his clarity is ultimately problematic for me because Whitechapel lyrics are always so embarrassing, like Machine Head level cringe.

Would love for him to sing something poignant and sophisticated for once.

Easily the band's best album. I love all of the more progressive elements and Phil's singing. The man is a beast.
