Gothic Metal is a misleading tag to this. This has many influences, not only Gothic but also Melodeath and Progressive, bits of Folk and some moments that could be labeled as Thrash. It's impressive however how all blends so well together and how every song is unique but makes sense in the context of the album. This has been on my playlist for a while now and I'm still finding sweet new details to explore.
Thanks for your note, you're absolutely right: calling this solely Gothic Metal is indeed misleading.
It's now also tagged 'melodic death metal' since Melodeath seems be the major influence and that's how the band labels their music.
Your post made me curious and I listened to some of their older songs and
Byzantine Horizons.
From a musical point of view this really is some good stuff. Just like you said: it's impressive how everything blends so well together without ever sounding odd or forced.
The only thing really bugging me are the clean vocals but this is just a matter of personal preference, operatic or power metal like vocals are not my thing anymore.
Anyway, interesting album!
