Durst was born in Jacksonville, Florida on August 20, 1970, and was raised in Gastonia, NC. After high school he served a stint in the U.S. Navy before returning to Jacksonville at age 20 to pursue a career as a tattoo artist.

Durst joined Limp Bizkit in 1994 with Sam Rivers and John Otto. Wes Borland joined soon after, and DJ Lethal.
