Amoth - Biography
Biography
Amoth is a unique epiphony from Helsinki, Finland. The band combines influences from traditional heavy metal, progressive metal, thrash and even jazz alongside classical music to their blend of elements that is their debut album entitled "Crossing Over", which was released through Inverse Records 5th of October 2011.
The album got great reviews around the globe. One common factor among critics was the "uniqueness" and "own sound" of Amoth's music, which is certainly true. This band can't directly be compared to any other band. Kenneth K. hit the spot in his Amoth review at the "Damned By Light" website:
"…Lucky for Amoth, their lyrics avoid the cliché of dragons, steel and even beer." He also wrote about Amoth singer Pekka Montin: "..when Pekka hits those high screams you feel a sense of joy…..compared to many Finnish vocalists, Mr. Montin’s skills are top notch in this field" and analyzed Amoth even deeper: "Like the Swedes Power metal, also Amoth has a healthy aggressive touch to their music but never mind the resemblances: this is no copycat act! To further spice their visions Amoth incorporates sections of lounge-jazz style playing, piano or just acoustically building up an atmosphere. A track that is worth an extra notice is the last song “Whispers from the Past” that also acts as the quota ballad for the album. It’s an almost folk-like tune accompanied only by acoustic guitar and orchestral like percussion. The subtle, yet powerful drumming brings the track to an altogether new level making it epic. After the listening session is over you are left in a jolly mood and with a smile on your face. Hell, it even leaves you in the mood to “play it again Sam”
At the moment Amoth is writing and rehearsing new material and also doing gigs around Finland. They now have two guitar players instead of one.
