In the Bajos de Argüelles center there are several places for listening to Heavy Metal: Lemmy (the biggest one, now existing for more than 20 years playing almost mainly classic Heavy Metal from the 80's and a lot of curious and old clips that I wonder about where they found them), Tyrant (great decoration with paintings all over the walls, lots of concert tickets and a big screen to see lots of videos playing mainly Heavy and Thrash Metal), TNT (quite big bar, you can listen to music ranging from Hard Rock, rather classic Metal and also some Spanish Heavy Rock), Talisman -mainly focused in old Thrash school- and Spectro.
You can see all the zone taken by Metalheads drinking inside the precint that also contains shops, since alcohol is not so cheap as it used to be. Most bars are very 80's style and so customers. Many girls wear like the band Vixen...no comments about that, a pleasure for the sight. Though the places are not very big, the atmosphere is great, Heavy Metal all around like in a festival. Some of the pubs have the same plaque reading "Heavy Metal Pub". In the other locations in the Bajos de Argüelles center they play Punk and Rock music, but there are also a latin night club -rubbish- and a couple of typical pubs playing stupid spanish songs.
Spectro closed down in 2006. Others pubs worth mentioning are Tuareg (Classic hard rock Thrash and Heavy Metal), Orion (the best for me: classic Metal, Speed Metal and Thrash from the 80's playing always the most known tracks from most known bands), Ragnarok -mainly Death and Black-, Alambique -former Alternative 4-, La Ducha, Sargantana Rock and La Dama (the most intimate, special for going with a girlfriend, with etnical and surrealist decoration and with not so loud music and less crowdy than the others. -In fact, I just could sit there and at Lemmy, but Lemmy was a bit expensive-)
Most pubs in the area play classic Hard Rock, Thrash and Heavy Metal. However, as mentioned before, there are a couple that bend for Death-Black and another that plays mainly all variants of Gothic.
I WILL ADD AN UPDATE FROM THE "METAL PUBS IN MADRID BLOG" TO MAKE CLEAR WHAT HAS CHANGED SINCE I ADD THE LOCATION. MAINLY THE NAMES OF THE LOCATIONS AND SOMETIMES A SMALL CHANGE IN THE METAL STYLE SPECIALIZATION AND NOT MUCH MORE...HERE IT IS:
Rebel Yell. Classic heavy metal and metal bar with pinball, table football and darts. Check their facebook page, they have a lot of pictures to have an idea how it looks inside.
Sinner. Another heavy metal bar, more little than Rebel but the same good atmosphere. Check their photos as well!
Fenrir. Focuses more into folk, power and death metal. Huge place with darts, pool and a large beer selection. Don't forget to visit their page.
Gatuperio. More heavy metal in this place! The FB page aren't updated since 2013 but they are still open.
Lemmy bar. Rock and heavy metal pub, as legendary as their name.
Bastard. Specialized in rock, A.O.R., hard rock, heavy, power, thrash, death music. Open friday and saturday till 3:00 am.
Tuareg. Heavy and hard rock. Open from tuesday to sunday till 2:30 am.
Boveda. Recently opened and until 6:00! Rock, punk and heavy metal mostly. From 23:00 pm to 6:00 am, just weekends. Check their pictures in FB!

These pubs are in the same area, just 5 or 10 minutes away.
Purple. This bar is the only one in the whole Argüelles where you can listening to metalcore, djent or recent genres from 2000. Check the page! Open till 3:30 am. CLOSED
La leyenda. Venue and pub, varied metal and rock, table football and opened till 3:30 am.
Fun House Madrid. Pub and venue, similar to Wurlitzer in music styles (rock, garage, punk, classics). Open till 5:00 am. Metro station Bilbao (line 1 or 4, light blue and brown)
Trashcan music club. Pub and venue like Fun House Madrid. Mostly Rock and roll, punk, garage and other styles. Open till 6:00 am. Metro station Bilbao (line 1 or 4, light blue and brown)
YOU MAY WONDER WHY THEY CHANGE NAMES SO OFTEN...I WILL JUST SAY THAT IT IS AN ENCLOSED RESIDENTIAL AREA WITH 7-9 METAL PUBS AROUND SINCE 1980...SO...YOU MAY IMAGINE THE NEIGHBOURS'S WRATH, AIN'T YOU?
