Sepultura have today issued the following statement: "Sepultura has reached the end of the road and has chosen to depart via a conscious and planned death. Throughout the next 18 months we will celebrate 40 years of existence together along with our loyal fans on a farewell tour across the entire globe. It will be a celebration of the past and the present for one final time."

The band continues: "After 4 decades filled with ups and downs, having visited 80 countries and countless different cultures, we’ve had the chance to become Brazil’s messenger to the world and spread our colours and rhythms worldwide. With our latest studio album Quadra, a highlight of our career, we added an unforgettable chapter followed by the SepulQuarta experience that helped us to overcome the difficult times of the pandemic together. We will unite our forces for one final, strong farewell. And all of you can be a part of it.

"During this 40th anniversary tour, we will record 40 live tracks in 40 different cities and release a massive compilation of our best, most energetic moments on stage. We are happy and very grateful for everything we could witness within the past four decades. We have released great albums and played unforgettable shows, cultivated friendships, met our idols, contributed to placing Brazilian metal on the world map, and therefore feel that we can leave the music scene with a sense of duty fulfilled.

"We’ve always had the best fans in the world, who supported us with praise and criticism, who were demanding and intelligent, who grew together with the band and have always been loyal. Without you, none of this would have been possible. This album and this tour are for you. Dear SepulNation - we love you and always will!

"Euthanasia, the right to a dignified death. The right to choose to live free and to choose when you die!"

First Black Sabbath, then Slayer, then Kiss and now Sepultura?! It sucks when a band has to go after at least three decades on the scene. It also looks like the end of hopes for a proper reunion with Max and Igor, even though I do consider the tours that they have done in recent years as "Cavalera" to be the closest to a Sepultura reunion.

One of my favourite bands of all time. I hope the Cavalera family take the band and make great albuns again ( quadra is good though) .

Sepultura died when Max left. They were easily top 3 in the world at the time and it was a huge bummer but I guess I have no sadness left in the tank...

Has anyone listened to Max for the last 15 years? It's just painful, the cavalera shows for beneath/arise in London was just so bad. Also he has not produced anything godd for decades. At least sepultura have been listenable (although Derick is pretty bad imo)

Fuck no, Max has been doing much better nowadays than Sepultura with Green ever has. The rerecordings of Morbid Visions/Bestial Devastation by Cavalera Conspiracy are clearly superior to the originals, the last few Soulfly albums were good (better than anything shit out by Derrick-era Sepultura for sure), Killer Be Killed and Go Ahead And Die were decent, and that's not even getting started on Nailbomb.

On the other hand, Sepultura finally splitting up was 20+ years overdue.

I'm in the minority here for liking Derrick era Sepultura but I've also had something like a cognitive dissonance thing where it felt like classic Sepultura and this Sepultura were two different bands. I attended a couple of Soulfly shows and the recent Cavalera tour and I'll try to catch this one too.

I think it's very commendable that they decided to go out on a high, although I am among those who strongly believe they should have changed the name back then. Anyway, the last two albums were way too good, and they had a wonder drummer in the ranks. Max has been doing equally well recently too, but that is irrelevant.

I am definitely catching this tour, but the fact that Obituary are playing after before Jinjer is a fucking insult.

Isn't an insult if they were playing before Jinjer?!

Sorry, I meant "before", of course. They are third band in the lineup.

OMG no, just no.
That would be such a shameless cashgrab - and one I totally expect Max to make.
Fact is, Sepultura has recorded some terrible shit after the Cavaleras left, but at least they recorded great albums after that.
And Max is really terrible onstage now
