Honestly though, as much as I like to make fun of Deicide, their lame satanic theatrics and their boring and formulaic death metal, this time it seems like the band actually managed to floor me. Yes, its true - the Stench Of Redemption EP is fucking brilliant. It's been a while since I heard a death metal release that sounded as fresh as this. I don't know what is to blame - the new members? Or maybe the evil date did really inspire the numb mind of Glen "Mr. Satan" Benton himself? We might never know but the result is quite phenomenal - inhumanely heavy but at the same time not devoid of proper hooks and even some well crafted guitar solos. This is not the same bland Deicide of yore - this is music with a clear sense of purpose, an infectious groove and a sense of power that has the capability of stunning even the oldest death metal veteran fans.
The Stench Of Redemption EP left me wanting to hear some more of this new and improved Deicide. I can only hope that the band doesn't choose to wreck their new found inspiration by repeating it formulaically ad nauseum on the upcoming full album of the same title. With this in mind, I shall now leave you to enjoy Stech Of Redemption.
