Hooray !! As for the current life in the Lowlands : examinations are coming up / Graspop Metal Meeting is within a month and I can't go because I have my final examination the day after the festival (screw that...) and now I have to hurry up because I have to leave for class but I will be late anyway (again)

I heard Opeth and Muse are coming to Lowlands. But the rest of the bands that are coming there are quite crappy, so I won't go. I don't really have time to go to a festival anyway.

My parents won't let me go to any festival, except Wâldrock because I nearly live next to it.. I'm not really fond of the Wâldrock 2006 line-up, but ah well, I got a free ticket.. And Nervel is staying over for Wâldrock, which is good too.

I like it better this way :p It's a lot faster now. Now I wont have to wait half an hour for a page to load (which is the main reason why I have only 20+ posts after already being a member for a relative long time)

I just can't wait untill it is the last day of May(last exam for me).

19.05.2006 - 12:21 Written by AntaeusM on 18.05.2006 at 12:31 Ah the good old days of exams at secondary school... Nice long holiday after you've finished them. In my case I failed my VWO exams in 1987 and passed them with flying colours in 1988. What a great summer 1988 was for me, first getting my driver's license in May then graduating and to top it all off The Netherlands became European Football Champions in Germany. And in August I moved to Utrecht to start studying at the university there.

19.05.2006 - 12:36 Written by Marcel Hubregtse on 19.05.2006 at 12:21 Well..I personally really don't like this period of secondary school You failed your VWO exams? I cannot imagine how I would feel like if I failed them. Yesterday Biology, it was very difficult, but I guess I survived. You know, nowadays if someone fails his/her exams he/she can do the subjects he/she failed on on a special school. For example, if I would fail my exam because of Biology and Maths, then I can go to a school next year were I can get my papers for Biology and Maths. Luckily we don't have to do the whole last year of VWO again.

@ Ozman : What did you study as a matter of fact ? My Criminology examinations start at 9June till 26June... and since I have re-examinations in August, my vacation will be very short (but very active and tense) I think The Netherlands has some big chances to win the World Football Championship this year (or at least reach the semi-finals). They seem to have a great team on paper. I'm really looking foward to The Netherlands - Argentina on 21June!

19.05.2006 - 12:48 Written by AntaeusM on 19.05.2006 at 12:36 Well, failing the 1987 exams didn't come as a surprise at all to me because I hadn't anything at all all year in 5 VWO and also didn't prepare at all for the exams in 1987, looking back at it it was surprising that I was even allowed to take a resit in two subjects (which I of course failed dismally) The possibiliy of taking the failed exams again at a different school was also possible back then. But I wanted to redo ALL the subjects because I wanted to pass with as high as possible grades in 1988. In 1987 I had the following grades... Economie 1 a 4 Economie 2 a 4 English a 9.5 Dutch a 9.5 Chemistry a 6.5 Physics a 6.5 Biology a 7 Wiskunde A a 6 Wiskunde B a 6 in 1988 the following grades Economie 1 a 8.5 Economie 2 a 8 English a 9.5 Dutch a 9 Chemistry a 8.5 Physics a 9 Biology a 8.5 Wiskunde A a 9 Wiskunde B a 9 Yeah I took 9 subjects instead of the obligatory 7. @Thryce I did 1 year of Biology at university where I only passed three exams I think and dismally failed all others. The year after that I switched to English Language and Literature and specialized in translation studies.

I know Jeff, Shavo, Arch-Enemy, Eddie, Hellish Star and matthioso are certainly going. And I guess also wrathchild, Deadsoulman, Ozman and MetalFalcon will be there too. Just look at Eddie's signature and do what it says [Metalstorm Meeting @ Graspop 2006 [Belgium], Contact Jeff...]

Depends on the line-up. And I'm not that much of a metalhead anymore. But if there are yummy progressive metal bands, then I'll think about it. Is het trouwens een ramp als hier Nederlands wordt gesproken?

20.05.2006 - 01:21 Written by Marcel Hubregtse on 19.05.2006 at 12:48 Two subjects? I can only redo one subject.. well, you had a lazy attitude as a student in 1987? I just study so I can pass the exams, but I have to sacrifice my social life if I want to have such grades as you have How can you ever have a 9 or 8,5 for subjects such as Chemistry and Maths(not Wiskunde! ). I always get 6's for these classes. My current grade list is: Dutch: 6.8 English: 6.8 Maths B: 5.8 Chemistry: 6.3 Physics: 6.7 Biology: 6.4 Informatics: 5.9(I already passed this class, so a 6 on my end list) Oh..well, IF I fail my exams, then I am not going to do all classes again. I don't want to stay another year on the secondary school/high school. Also, I really don't care about my grades, as long as they are above a 5,5. It surprises me that you didn't feel that way, that you are only satisfied with 9's on your list

20.05.2006 - 02:19 Written by Thryce on 19.05.2006 at 21:30 I wonder if anybody actually contacted Jeff Yep, I'm definetly going, already got my ticket. And Ozman wow! Thats some list you got there. I only got sixes and a couple of sevens, I think it was pretty much about the same as Blackgirs (though I did economics), it was enough to get into my study of choice, with some luck I bet. My exams (3 of them) are coming as well, starting at the 8th of June and after that vacation, I cant wait until they are over. Nice sweet vacation. EDIT Though I dont really know for sure if Jeff is going, same as wrathchild. They have another festival in the neighbourhood which could end up winning their favor. But nothing is certain of course, you should ask them personally to find out. I will ask them soon about it as well to see what their plan is. Lets hope they will go

I just had my last PTAs, and I'm dead nervous. PTAs means that when you're in 4th grade of secondary school, you HAVE TO do some subjects. Like English, and Dutch, and such. You also HAVE TO do History and Maatschappijleer (English word??), even though you didn't pick them. These two subjects, history and maatschappijleer, I finish in the 4th grade (10th for non-Dutch people, I believe). Which means, I have to do some kind of history and maatschappijleer exams this year, and the rest of my exams in the 6th.. It's not really like exams though. For each of these subjects you get 3 tests in a year, called PTAs. The average of these PTAs is your final grade, you will get on your list in the 6th.. I had all three PTAs now, but I'm still waiting for the grades I got for the third. For the other PTAs I got: History: 5.4 adn 5.4 Maatschappijleer: 5.0 and 5.5 Yes, the grades suck. I need to get them both up to 5.5, which means I passed. It looks like I'm gonna fail both of them now. I hate the fact that I HAVE TO do these subjects.. I picked biology12, maths B12, chemistry12, physics12, informatica and Latin. As you can see, I'm not really a history-type. I'm ok at languages too, which is good, since I have to do exams in French1, German1, Dutch and English. And Latin, since I picked that.. I hate history, god damnit.

20.05.2006 - 13:27 Written by AntaeusM on 20.05.2006 at 01:21 At the time I really was an over achiever. But I also wanted to get those high grades because I wanted to get into a numerus fixus study at the time. But even those grades didn't help since I didn't get in. But nowadyas I think I would be content with only 5.5s for subjects I wouldn't be doing anything with anymore later on in life. But when it comes to work I am still the same annoying over achiever I was back then I really can't stand mediocrity when it comes to work or anything I am really into. That character trait can be annoying as hell to others and myself from time to time though.

20.05.2006 - 14:03 Written by Marcel Hubregtse on 20.05.2006 at 13:27 You couldnt get in with those grades?! Did you want to go to MIT or something The study I'm in right now, criminilogy, has a numerus fixes as well, but I managed to get in. It was based on grades only, didnt got an interview. I'm still amazed I got in. but I don't worry about it too much haha. @ Nafanin Yeah, I can remember I hated history as well. Its a fun subject, but the way they teach it was so boring and dull. But well, all you can do is your best and pass the fuckers and get it over with.
