So, when you think of metal bands with some of the all-time great line-ups, whom do you think of? Go ahead; think for a moment. As for me, names like Bloodbath, Opeth, Cynic, and Diabolical Masquerade are a few that come to mind. Hmm, it's interesting that three of those share common members, isn's it? And oh yeah, by the way, there are several others you can add to that list, one of them being Nevermore. Let's see here, we have one of the best vocalists in not only metal, but in all of music in Warrel Dane, without a doubt one of music's best guitarists in Jeff Loomis, an incredible drummer in Van Williams, and a bass player by the name of Jim Sheppard who had no problem keeping up with all of them. I'll be honest I find this to be a very lackluster album, I thought it would be a lot better considering it's position on this site but then again when was that ever relevant information... seriously lame though I doubt I will be expanding my Nevermore collection after this...

Posts: 9125 Written by InnerSelf on 22.03.2014 at 22:12 First contact often has this effect, yes  Yet I know I'm the minority here, but I don't think that DHIADW their best album (even if there's "Inside Four Walls" and "The River Dragon Has Come" on it) - I can't decide between The Politics Of Ecstasy (all around greatness), Dreaming Neon Black (so full of emotion, Warrel's fav as it is partly autobiographic), or This Godless Endeavor (a bit more it and miss, but there are many awesome songs on that one).So if you haven't already, check those ones too  Pure Nevermore magic!

Posts: 9125 Written by InnerSelf on 22.03.2014 at 22:25 well, as Loomis isn't in the band anymore, Nevermore is as good as dead, really. What makes (made  ) them so unique was that awesome Dane / Loomis tandem...Anyway, few bands can actually claim a legacy as good as theirs

I've been revisiting Nevermore's discography for the past few days, and I'm honestly shocked how much I still love this album, Enemies of Reality, and Godless Endeavor. I put those three pretty much on par with each other, though this one is probably the most impressive by a slight margin. Really great stuff. If only Loomis realized that technical guitar masturbation does not equal good songwriting, maybe his new music would actually compare to this.
