Jorn - To Release Dio Tribute Album

Masterplan frontman Jørn Lande is set to release a tribute album to the musical legacy of the late Ronnie James Dio. The new album, aptly entitled Dio, will be released on Frontiers Records on July 2nd in Europe and July 27th in the US. Dio was mixed by Tommy Hansen at Jailhouse Studios.

Handpicking some lesser known tunes of the Dio era, along with some of the true classics, Jorn offers a fine collection of songs that present the music of the Man and the Artist, with a unique twist. In Jørn Lande's own words: "Throughout the years I have had the privilege of both meeting and working with many of the musicians that have inspired me on my musical journey. Ronnie James Dio has inspired me through decades, and this man's influence continues to add colour to my creative spirit. Ever since the first time I heard his royal roar back in the 70's, I have been fascinated by this extremely talented man's creative force and dedication to music. His career has been going on for so long and includes so many great songs, that it was a challenge to decide which songs and what era to focus on. I ended up focusing on the Dio era".

The album also includes an original song for which a videoclip, shot by Thomas Tjader (Pretty Maids, In Flames) was produced. Jørn says "I wrote "Song for Ronnie James" as a tribute and a personal thanks to the man who has been my mentor for more than 35 years. This great man has affected my life and career in such a way that without his presence, I would not have become the artist I am today".

There shood be 2 CD one Elf, Rainbow, Sabbath, other Dio

When evening falls
She'll run to me
Like whispered dreams
Your eyes can't see
Soft and warm
She'll touch my face
A bed of straw
Against the lace

We believed we'd catch the rainbow
Ride the wind to the sun
Sail away or ships of wonder
But life's not a wheel

With chains made of steel
So bless me come the down
Come the down

We believed we'd catch the rainbow
Ride the wind to the sun
Sail away on ships of wonder
But life's not a wheel

Just when I thought I couldn't like Jorn anymore. I've always thought he had a hint of Dio about his voice. I was lucky enough to see him covering We Rock in Dudley.

People should check out Stargazer (which Jorn performed with mundanus Imperium)

Of course Jorn would do this. Why am I not surprised in the least? Awesome.

Jorn, I love you and renew my offer of marriage, hehehe

Do you think he already had this in the works? I mean, even if they are covers it usually takes quite a while to make a whole album. He possibly may have been working on it since last year. Regardless, great way to pay tribute. I hope that in time there will be a tribute album with many, many artists that can pay their respects.

Pretty honorable that Holy Diver isn't on the tracklist.

WTF people?! am i the only one that thinks this is totally opportunistic?! Jorn is a twisted prick! There's no honour in his doing. If there was, he'd fukking take the god damn time to record a decent memorial album and release it a little later than just 5 days after the man's death. As Clint W. mentioned, Jorn must have been working on this album ever since he found out Dio was diagnosed with cancer!
I disrespect Jorn for this, he's just milking someone else's misery.
Even if it's a good album, which I strongly doubt, i hope critics give him a thumb down for this one.
This is no way to make a tribute album.

I don't think he's milking it at all. I'd assume you mean for money, and you gotta realize, there ain't much money in metal.

I kinda see his point. Like just watch the music video, it starts off with the kid simply over-looking the album, and then at the end he decides to buy it. Even though their ain't much money in metal these days, the intent is clearly there.

All that aside, it's still a good sounding song.

He was working on this around 2008, so this was way before Dio was diagnosed. Dunno why this was never mentioned before.

Oh, if that's true, it changes my view a bit. But it still is milkin' (the money). I generally agree there isn't much money in metal, but when it comes to Dio and making a memorial album for him things change. Either Jorn had good or less good intentions, he's still gonna make some easy money.

Yep, Jorn has said he was working on this album before Ronnie was even diagnosed. Perhaps his reunion with Masterplan pushed back the release of the DIO album, and its just a very unfortunate coincidence that the song and album are being released shortly after Ronnie's death. Anyways, it is labels, not artists, who decide on a realease date for singles/albums, so perhaps it is a case of the label being opportunistic with the timing of the release. However, I do believe Jorn when he said this album was being worked on long before Ronnie became ill, and he's just an unfortunate victim of circumstances as far as the timing goes.
