Destroying Divinity is a skilled young death metal group that, despite their killer riffing and blasting, offers nothing memorable with Dark Future. The album has freight train loads of brutal death done by the books, but, at the same time, done without even a hint of uniqueness or nuance. This is an album for people desperate for a constant influx of brutal music and who can't stand putting on their old Immolation or Hate Eternal albums anymore.
Some of the riffing is crazy good, though. Like "Black Metal: A History" by ponderer crazy and tantric sex while sipping on Mirror Pond good. Some of the riffing is. At other times the level of cliché embraced here rivals that of the Transformers movies.
The vocals suffer from a similar creative ailment. They're good, but don't even have a trace of distinctiveness. Vox-guy sounds like a fucking loony biter, but like a stereotypical loony biter. The guy hasn't distinguished himself at all from the rest of the death metal pack.
Drums? Same thing.
But look, just because the fangled uniqueness issue annoys the fangle out of me doesn't mean that you shouldn't check this out. If you like death metal then, on paper, you should like this. Destroying Divinity is extremely skilled at playing what loads of other bands have played before them and they definitely have the talent to make their stuff more unique. Hope they eventually will.
