Just listened this through at the end of my work hours, it's a damn fine album! I'd say it's within the Top 3 obscure/melodic black metal of the '90s.

Pretty cool album. To Achieve The Ancestral Powers is a great interlude track that really adds another dimension to the album.

At some serious points when the vocals don't get tuned interrupting the way for the guitar assault, this becomes In The Solarside Eclipse.
[edit] If anything, this deserves a lot more attention here than it has so far but I find Sacramentum has the better songwriting and production blended to back up Far Away From The Sun's impenetrable and I mean IMPENETRABLE flow. Dissection at the core was Melo-blackened worshippers of the NWOBHM style at heart hence having the majority of mid-pace sections of them all.
What Dawn had both of them beat at was they along with Necrophobic had the most outstanding logo designs and art.

Finally listened to this album - very good black metal indeed! And I just realized that the "slaughter-sun" on the cover is a nuclear explosion - awesome idea!

A little one-dimensional IMO. Does the meloblack sound very well but is hindered by the linear songwriting (especially the drums) and production.

A good album for the genre, worthy of listening. Definitely not as good as Dissection imo.
Enjoyed "The Knell And The World", "Falcula", the instrumental "To Achieve The Ancestral Powers" and the great riffs of "The Aphelion Deserts". The cover is iconic, it should be praised as well.

I always thought this was a touch better than Dissection, honestly.

Very bold statement right there, I'd say it's better than The Somberlain (and Reinkaos obviously) but not quite as good as SOTLB
