Might give some of these a listen, though I've heard Ironwood before and found them a difficult listen to say the least, think it's the clean vocalist :/

I guess you're right. Experimentation in black metal isn't something new in black metal these days, and that's why I think that the death metal list is more "unusual".

I think he's saying that experimentation is more typical of Black metal, which makes it all the more surprising when its found in the Death subgenre.
